Bear Racing 2 way Av 213.31 MPH

On the Space Shuttle 3 mile runway today they had a little meet. The rules are you have 1 mile to run up to speed and you are measured at the beginning of the 2nd mile at the Middle of the mile and the end of the mile. The three (3) speeds are averaged and the Normally Aspirated bike (A - ZX12R) went 218+ at over 5,000 feet altitude and 225+ peak speed.

His turbo Bike averaged 255+ (A Turbo ZX12). The only problem was the Turbo Busa went 259+ More information as I get it

herk????

218 for NA is incredible! and at 5000' is damn near a miracle.

Dave Owen has the world record for NA in a mile standing start (Busa, Maxton) and it is 217-218.

Go - Pierre - GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think he's talking about Banjul. 11,180 feet long and 150 feet wide. No longer used as a TAL site.

He is sending me an E-Mail with the facts but was so excited that he had to call. Of course I have seen the Smidget that rides the bike (He would need to add weight to be a Jockey )

The one thing I am not totally sure about is the altitude. I know where he lives is over 5,000 feet but I do not know what the altitude is at the ALS As soon as I know I will print. He stated that it was a Large engine and they had done everything they knew. But the excitement was in the fact that he was so surprised!!

From the figures he gave, they are slower than Dave's bike at the end of the 1st mile and the Peak at 2 miles was 225. SO if the speeds were 211 at 1 mile, 218 at 1.5 miles and 225 at 2 miles that would average 218 so as you can see, 211 NA at Maxton on a ZX12 has already almost been achieved by Dan's sons at a high 209! The 11,000 foot place cannot be the place because it would have to be over 15,000 feet long.

I just got the information for the "Official" average for the "TWO" way run which lowered the average by 5 MPH. When Pierre called they had just run in the 1 direction so here is the information

Here is the information about this bike. I do not have the information on the Turbo yet.

HI VINCENT

Here are the official results of the South African land speed records

run up is 1km then you get 1km measured and then 1km to stop

the same for the return

Not bad for JP 's bike he built a1320 ,pipe, head job .k&n and cam deg

no cams
no funny fuel
no streamlining
stock wheelbase
no lowering
no weight reduction

Pierre

My Math shows the MPH is over 213.31 . This is the two way average of the entry speed middle speed and exit speed going in both directions.

The record set by the turbo busa was 249.96 which means it lost 1bout 10 MPH in the 2 way average. (Pierre's average did not set the record so was not posted. He averaged about 4 MPH slower) and the Jet car went 312.52

The airport is 4,181 feet above Sea Level. so it is even above Bonneville

Not by much if at all, Bonneville is 4168 I think. I'd like to know the air temp during the runs. Anybody know? Density altitudes at the salt routinely run in the 6-7000 ft range.
VERY IMPRESSIVE, Bear.

What % wheelspin were you seeing? (Gear spd vs. actual)

That's almost exactly what I figured my 1340 would do on pavement. All the calcs worked out to 215 at 5000 ft., 220 at sea level with about 5% slip compared to the 15% usually seen on the salt.

Doug, What you did, WHEN You did it and "WHERE" you did it is still very serious to me. When he made his first call and had a peak speed of 225 , between the excitement and his accent (Not to mention the Cell phone) was really wild. My thinking from what he was saying was that they had run the "HARD" Direction. From the speed the Busa Turbo dropped, they must have had a serious wind shift.

I will see of I can get either the air temp or the Corrected altitude air density (Like the SAE Number when doing HP )
