I'll never forget when my best friend showed up at high school in 1971 with a
Kawasaki 500 MachIII... and spouted off as it was the FASTEST Mother Fucker in
town... which brought out this other dude who's daddy bought him a '69 Vette with
a big block... Well to the parking lot we all went... even the friggin' principal...!!!!

And that triple, two-stroke Kawi smacked the shit out of the Vette....

That was all it took... my buddy, Tom, ..... WAS GOD...!!!!!

Damn you boys are old.
The first bikes I remember wanting were the Honda Interceptor in 84 and the Hurricane in 87.
My first (streetbike) was an 88 Katana 600

The knowledge you all have amassed is amazing.

Conman, I had a new '82 GPz 750, a new '84 Interceptor (white and candy red) and a new '86 VFR750-R (pearl white). The '84 was a great bike but the '86 was state of the art in its day. Very fast for a 750 and it handled unbelievably.

My oldest was born in 1986 and needless to say the buying a new bike every one or two years ceased at that point. LOL

My first new bike was 1980 KZ750 and by 82 it had a turbo. To this day it was the most fun I've ever had on a bike peroid. I spanked everything in town and the dumb ones twice. I held out on the younsters a little long than Bob. My first was 89 anf then everything stopped for several years. SHIT!!!! I did have a lot of fast Kawasaki streetbikes for those 10 years though. That 78 Z1R was a friggin DREAM machine drippin wet with sex! I never had one of those. Had a chance to own a Z1R TC one and passed for some now unknow reason.

Gunner, trust me on this.

The Z1-R was a landmark bike. A beautiful styling statement. It was fast. It was rare.I liked it.

But it handled like shit.

Too bad you and I didn't know each-other in 1999. It had about 6500 documented miles when I sold it.

No shit.

I don't have a digital pic but I have some Polaroid pics I can scan.... The bike was clean.

I can remember standing at the dealer and drooling at the Z1R for hours on end. I was a kid so they didn't run me off. Now when I see them they look funny somehow. Kinda like some of my high school girlfriends. They look funny to me now as well And I drooled on a few of them to.

When the Kawasaki 900 Z-1 had a kick starter???

With a center stand???

With four pipes....

How about the button you pulled on a Kawasaki 750 H-2... to oil the chain as you rode???

Or dumping in two stroke oil in the gastank because you didn't trust the oil injection
system... I use to have these little min-cans in the tail... good for one gallon of gas...

And how BAD we thought we were when we found out how to run TWO brake rotors
up front????

When the front fenders were CHROME... and we painted them black... to be hooligans.

Or cutting off the tail fender, just like everyone does today... but in 1974....

How about adjusting the shims over the valves, when the shims were the size of
quarters...!!!!

Or putting in the 1050 kit, and running in the 10's??? Back then, NOBODY ran in the
10's...

Kerker exhaust...

Or how to make a fire when you were out late and cold... by dipping a stick in the gastank,
pulling off a plug wire, and hitting the starter to light the stick... can't do that today.

Running two sets of springs on the points, so you could rev higher!!!!!!

Turning the heads around on the motor so the carbs were in the front (RAM AIR) and
the exhaust going out under the seat... again 1974!!!!!

Geesh, nothing new on these bikes anymore.... I should have kept all my old Z-1s

Still have my 74 Z1A and still ride it

Or on the H2, folding up the right side foot peg so you could use the kick starter.

hear the 900 once again... guess it's time ot go looking for one...

OS... you be right on that one... thanks! I forgot about that...!!! And while on the subject...
The '72 750 had a steering dampner!!!! Friction plates that got tighter as you cranked
down a knob...

I do remember almost dying once while looking down for the chain oiler....

And don't forget riding an 11 second bike with drum brakes.... (rear)

I knew somebody would bring up that shit. Ev'rytime I bring up how old I am, somebody hasta go and bring up Mr. Hill being a 163 years old and still one fast old man! LOL

I bought my '79 CBX in September of '78. Hence the a.k.a Barbarian-CBX. I was a mere 25 years young and a stud. I sold it in the summer of '02. I think about that mistake 10 or 12 times a day.

Remember the late 60s BSA Rocket 3s and the Triumph Trident 3s at 750ccs?

you guys are way ahead of my time, but the first bike I ever rode was a honda cb400? 70 something I guess. It was you typical dual exhaust with the book rack on the back. I'd love to have that bike now because it was just so much fun. The 2nd bike that SCARED the crap out of me was a '83 GS750E. It was a bank repo that my brother picked up for $500. It had an aftermarket exhaust and bored out. My brother won the sealed bid from the credit union, stopped by the Repoee's house and picked up the keys. It ran like a scolded ape. One day I borrowed it while he was at work---ran it up to 130 on the speedo and pissed my pants trying to figure out how to turn it...I'm lucky to be alive. I tried to buy it from him a few years bazck, but he had gotten in a bind and sold it for $500.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about, but I kick myself for getting such a late start on motorcycling...now, its my Only passion.

The bad part is I was working in a Kwak shop when the 69 H1 came out and in 73 when the Z1 came out. My favorite is still the 71 H1, that blue with the good ignition and no brakes. Life was good. I put Wheelsmith chambers and Morris Mags on my purple 73 H2. I can still hear those H2rs they ran at the San Jose mile.

I have some somewhere. Actually the bike showed up on ebay a few years back in San Francisco. Then It showed up in a local vintage bike dealer showroom. The only thing they had done to it was put on some individual K&Ns ( I had the stock can with a K&N in it). and they put on some lower bars.
I will try to find the pictures.

Nope. Two guys I work with still race H2's at the dragstrip every weekend. I love that 2-stroke sound. I'll see if I can get you some video this weekend...
