Anyone know or been to Balad ?
If you recognize the name I guess you do.
I know it's off topic, but I'm looking for some info.

If you're talking about Balad Iraq, I may be able to answer some questions. I'm in Taji, but we fly up occasionally.

Yup, that's the place.
My sister is heading there un a couple week, AF nurse. From what I read it's kinda rough, but I rarely believe what I read so I was looking for a first hand opinion.
Any input would be appreciated.

They seemed to get lots of mortar attacks back when I was in the area, but Balad (Anaconda) is a pretty cool place as far as Iraq is concerned. I think they have about 4 PX's (1 LARGE and 3 small), a theater, a rather large pool, a few chow halls, and couple of American places to eat Lots of KBR employees there too. They even have a few bus routes that will take you anywhere you want to go. Pretty good place to go if you head "that direction" for sure. Lots of AF there when I went.
YZF...I was at Taji on Pod 19, right south of the chow hall and right east of the PX. I left in March and I sure don't miss it. I am sure we will be back that way pretty soon.......
