ZX12R & new 1liter bikes

Hi,
I am new to this fourm and I need some help.
I have a stock 04 12r with a muzzy pipe and 1 tooth down in the front.
I ran a guy with a stock 04 R1 in the1/4 tonight, it took me 3 tries before I got him and not by much , he could launch really good on the last run we were neck to neck I got him by half a bike thats it.
My weight 250 him 150-160 and his bike is lighter.
I thought even if he got a better start I would catch him I guess I thought wrong.

Is their anything I can do to get the advantage that won't cost a arm and leg and don't have to rip the motor apart due to the extended warranty.
would a power commander help much?
Before you say it I am 6'4" and not over weight.

Welcome to the reality that it's all power vs weight, and not just YOUR weight but that
of the 12... back in 2000 it was heavy.... now in 2005 it's considered a pig.

The liter bikes weigh much less than the 12 and make almost as much power...
Honestly, I amazed you beat him... your bike weighs 80lbs more and so do you.
With a 180lb weight disadvantage, you should have lost....

The only reason to buy a 12 nowadays is because big guys find them more comfortable
than the liter bikes... but the days of being top dog are nearly over... sad huh?

Yeah get a custom map made and that may help. If your mapping is off a custom map would probably get you more power every where in the powerband. That in turn is going to have your average power higher and better accelleration thru the rpm range.

With KleanAir removal, a map, better filters, Bear Stacks, etc... all the bolt on mods, you
might gain 10 hp... big deal... You won't even be able to tell.

Turbo or a big bore kit will make a difference... and cost you $5K and up... and since
the 12 has the airbox in the frame, it's hard to turbo these cleanly... that's why the busa is
much better for turbo purposes...

You have a fast bike... and you have a bike that usually fits big guys better.

Two things you should look up... Heli-bars will raise the clip-on bars about an inch so you
don't ride hunched over as much... great for longer rides, and they don't adversely
effect your hole shot or your handling, and the other thing you might do is to ping another
member here, I think maybe Blitz (Scooter Trash) came up with this... I don't remember,
but there are a set of footpegs off a model of a Buell, that bolt right on, that lower your
footpegs by an inch... for someone as big as you, 6'4"?? it's a godsend.

Then just be happy with having a fast bike. and get good on it. But no matter how much
you spend on your bike, there will ALWAYS be somebody faster....

try Muzzys adjustable igniton advancer.. Set it to 4 degrees advance.. It improves throttle response works for me.. Nothing against your muzzy pipe but you might want to try an Akrapovic

Hi guys..great forum.

I am 6'6" tall and just bought a 05 12R last week. I looked long and hard and it was the bike that fit me best. Just thought I would chime in on the "big guy" issue.

Great bike and very fast.

Congrats in your new bikes guys... even though the 12 isn't cutting edge like the
liter bikes are right now, I wouldn't give mine up for anything. I'm only 5'10" but it
fits me perfect, and the Heli-bars were the best add I did for comfort.

My best time on all motor in Florida (at sea level) was a 9.37 @ 147 mph. No NOS.
Now that I'm in Arizona I know it's not nearly as quick as I'm at 3000 feet. Still fast as
hell...

I am 6' and (ahem) 250 or so...
I put a thousand miles on the 12 in 2 days a few weeks ago and my fingers are still numb.
Literally. They may have fixed the vibration with the new ones. Heli bars, different foot pegs and bar snake or some such is definately called for if you plan to ride far. It was a painful experience. I discounted the need for the mods but not anymore...

ZX12r04, you may need more gearing to make up for some of that weight. 12s don't have the torque you would think a bike bike would so you need some help off the line. Itz probably the cheapest tuning you can do to help in the 1/4 mile.

Here you are not getting a PC3 over the warranty (Just disconnect it and remove it ) but you would consider NOS? that for sure would ruin a Warranty? ZXLNT has really worked on his Muzzy Pipe so get a PC and put in the map and check the bike out on a dyno. If you are making HP in the 170 and torque around 100 you will be fine.

I speak from experience because I am over 1/8 ton!
