Yosh System experience on a ZX-12R

I like the way the Yosh stainless with a Oval TI can looks, the RS3 System. I am considering buying it due to the fact that I'm getting a hell of a deal for it brand new still in the box! Will it give me the same amount of power as the others will or more. I plan on putting this system on in conjunction with a PCIIIr, BMC Filters and an ignition advancer. I am hoping for 175-180 hp on the dyno. Any ideas or suggestions.

Thanks

Several of the board members have the Yoshimura RS-3 Duplex Race systems on their bikes - Y2KZX12R, Ninjaman12R, Otis, FearsomeK, Hondo and myself to name a few. I think you'll find we all love our Yosh exhausts. The Yosh RS-3 Duplex Race and the Akrapovic systems are at the top of the heap for street systems in my opinion. [Not that my opinion counts for much! ]

Just make sure that the RS-3 system you are looking to buy is in fact a Duplex Race system. Yosh also makes the RS-3 system with a "non-Duplex" header for the 12R. The correct part number for a system like you described (stainless system with Titanium canister) is ZX126RRD-TI.

Well, the Duplex Race system is technically a "race" system, while the regular RS-3 system is a "street" system. The regular system doesn't have the cross-over tubes on the header pipes and (I'm guessing here) the headers are probably a little smaller diameter. I believe the regular RS-3 system also comes with a more restictive "street" baffle in the canister.

I'm not 100% sure what the differences are (aside from the cross-over tubes) since NO ONE that I know of has the regular RS-3 system!!

It is the Duplex race system. Is it unrealistic to expect 175-180 from the mods I'm talking about and have any of you guys dyno'd. Also do you run PCIIIr or the Yosh EMS. Where did you guys get your maps.

Thanks Again

175-180 is not unrealistic, but those numbers can vary quite a bit from dyno to dyno! A "happy" dyno will post somewhere around 180 RWHP with the Yosh Duplex, a Power Commander (or Yosh EMS) and K&N filters.

I run the PCIIIr on mine and the K&N filters. The bike ran good with the mapping available from Dynojet, but I had a custom fuel map done on a DJ250 and the engine is much smoother running. Check the Power Commander website to find a complete listing of "authorized" Power Commander Tuning Centers.

"I plan on putting this system on in conjunction with a PCIIIr, BMC Filters and an ignition advancer."

You DO realize that the PCIIIr allows you to advance/retard the ignition timing? No need for a mechanical ignition advance unit when you've got the PCIIIr!!

No I didn't know that! Is there anyway you could send me a copy of the map you used?

Yes, I'll send you the custom fuel map. The ignition timing map that will come with the file I send you is "Hank's ignition timing map". It works well for most of us that have tried it. Check your mail soon!!

It has been sent. You will need to have the Power Commander software on your computer to view the maps (tables). If you don't already have the software (it comes with the Power Commander when you buy it), you can download it free from the Power Commander website.

I'll be back in a little while --- got to prime some .223 Remington cases!

The 12 with a decent pipe, filters, PC3/r, and the Dynojet map specific for your set-up should produce 170+HP. Now if you purchase one of the leading pipes such as akro, Ti Force, Yosh, and of course the bad-ass sounding Muzzys, with the rest of the above mentioned parts you should see 175+HP. As far as PC3r or EMS, here's the deal, They both do the same thing, they allow you to control the air/fuel mix and timing advance. Therefor, with either you will not need a advancer. Actually Dynojet makes both. The difference is the EMS has options that allow all the bells and whistles for an additional cost (Up to approx.$1000). The only thing I would want to know, does the EMS link to the automated tuned link computerized tuning system used with the PC3/r. If not I'd rather buy the PC3/r and add the other bells & whistles separately. Take a look at this system, http://www.powercommander.com/tuninglink.shtml

If you use one of the top pipes and the above-mentioned parts with the Dynojet Linked Tuning you should see closer to 180HP.

I personally think that with the full ti/oval Muzzys you get more for the money. It's right up there with the peak HP producers, it's probably better in the mid-range then most, it's probably the lightest pipe made, it's one of the most reasonably priced, and it is definitely the most Bad-Ass sounding pipe. As far as quality, I'd put the full ti/oval Muzzys up against ANY pipe.

I love my Yoshimura......

It kicks ass.....PERIOD!!!! Excellent bottom, and killer midrange and topend pull. I'll go with Koz on the Muzzy as far as sound goes. I like that deep as rumble they get, but my Yosh is coming into it's own now that it's getting a few miles on it and I like the sort of exotic sports car sound it makes too. Plus for a goddamned idiot like me, it will draw a little less attention.

I am glad I went the yosh route because I was SO afraid a full system would yield a "peaky" power delivery. Not so with the yosh, it pulls hard everywhere, and that's the way I like it. I know some pipes really give up some power on bottom then come on in the mid, I didn't want that. I looked at dyno charts long and hard before I bought the Duplex system. Plus I've rode a muzzy piped 12 and noticed it was mild down low (no offense Muzzy guys, you know I like muzzy products) and I didn't care for that. I'm a wheelie freak, curve rider, and the fatboy who occasionally goes to the strip on test and tune night. The yosh suits me fine, I think anyone would be pleased with it.

I'd gladly send it to you - but I don't have your e-mail address!! My map can also be downloaded from Easyrider's website. It is the "Red 12R Rocket" map over on his site.

Thanks Rocketracer. I downloaded the map from Easy's site. Your mods are identical to what I have so hopefully it will work nice without me having to have it tuned.

Thanks for all the help!

Well just bought a brand new system for my 12 today. A Yosh Tri oval Duplex TRS Race Stainless Steel Full System w/Titanium Sleeve. Should be here next week. Can wait! Now for the EMS vs. PCIIIR issue. Which one to buy and why! :-)

You'll like it.........

You'll like the Yosh. It's a nice system, almost to pretty to cover up. But it ain't the looks you'll be thinking about after your first ride. You'll be going D-A-M-N!!!

Depending on some dyno testing you Yosh 126rrd guys might have some more "bolt on" low end snot coming your way in a month or so. We'll see how it goes on the dyno.
