What's the fast time for ya up there at the Gap Jere????????? Honestly I have never timed myself up there. The only time I was halfway timing myself was the day I came up on Kawman sitting on the side of the road wiff a bruised up 12r and a bruised up Kawman, so I stopped. I haven't been there since the .org rally and probably won't go back till the next rally. I hate to have an unfair advantage on you out O towners.

As for the time... well, we always ran from the state line of NC/TN... you know about
1/8 mile or so from CROT to the overlook... but I was told the first guys to race there
kept going to the bridge further on... so our times and there times don't count right..
Then there are also guys that count from CROT to the overlook, and others that go from
CROT to the bridge.
I'm not sure where the "11 miles, 318 turns" start and end... can someone else chime
in that KNOWS FOR SURE...????
Anyway, from the state line to the overlook, I could usually do it it in 7 mins, 30 secs... if
the run was clean with no traffic. That was in a Posche powered sandrail with about
550 hp.
Now I'd like to run it in the 1000hp beast...!!!! But I'd have to have spotters and others
to keep all traffic off as I know I could easily blast some insane speeds...hahahaha
I'd like to see that face of some cop as I went by with the ass end on fire....

Hell fire Jere I'm talking about BIKES here not four wheeled toys. By the way that 1000 Hp beast is pretty damn cool. I kinda have the hots to build one of those. It would be a fun little toy indeed. Maybe next year

I'm not sure what a good time is for a bike... I think someone said anything under
11 minutes is really fast for a bike... Of course, a bike can't corner like a car can...
especially with roadrace slicks and monster power.
I made a run with my girlfriend at the time, and she loved that shit... but when we got to
the overlook, she puked her brains out... 2-3 Gs back and forth all the time... and blurp!!!!
Also, people have said that a fair time is one where you go up and back and average
your time... too much traffic to do that.... just to get a one way run with no traffic is almost
impossible anymore.

It seems like I've heard anywhere in the 10 min range is good for a bike. Usually my hands get numb and I lose feel of the front brake and have to shake my hand. The price of getting old I guess. I have run the whole second half without any feeling in my hands. It will get your attention for sure.

Speaking of that, GreenMamba was helping me with a video I was trying to download
out of my camcorder and make a DVD...
I took the big block out and was filming, and came across a busa!!! I dogged him for
miles through traffic trying to get him to go with me... and finally we hit a red light with
both of us at the front!
Well, I kept blipping the throttle, and finally he looked over an nodded... I was sooooo
freaking happy!!!! So the light went green and he and I both launched hard...and I
never got to see a busa up close launching so I sort of stayed right off his tail....
I wound out first gear on the first set of 4 barrels, and then when I made the 1-2 shift I
hit the second set of 4 barrels... that busa didn't have clue what happened... ahahahaha
One, it's loud as a locomotive in your backyard, two, it blows fire and smoke out both
sides like a top fuel car... so I know it freked him out as I went by him...
BEST PART... I got it all on tape!!! So I'm trying to download the video with movieshaker...
and it keeps making the video stutter and the sound was breaking up. So I kept trying
to reload it and when it said "overwrite" I thought it meant the saved file on MY pc... not
in the camera... well, like a dumbass I lost the best friggin video I ever took in my life.
I don't know how to use the camera right, I don't know what settings to use and when I
download the video, it shakes and breaks up the sound. I'm so frustrated. So I don't
even take more movies...as I suck with them...
If anyone here is good and can tell me what to use, let me know.
I have a Sony Handycam IP with MEPG2 video. I use MovieShaker software to get the
video off the camcorder...and usually lose it in the process...

Damn Jere that story reminds me of the last video I shot banging my EX I lost that one too!!! She just never would come back over for a reshoot either. Actually I don't think she would have agreeded to the first shootin either had she known......LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why is it we always lose the good shots? Speaking of GreenMamba ask him about the money shot of my 12 he lost at the rally. Damn I would have been famous had he captured that one... Very, very sad indeed. It was a Buckfidy at full lean smoking the back tire!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had my eyes closed and screaming like a little girl in my helmet.....Damn it's always the good ones we lose!!!!!!!!!!!

Gunner... I'm not really a perv... but one time I hid a camcorder in da b-room... and we
went at it like animals... about 5 months later we split up...
So one day I was watching the vid... and I called her and told her about it.... oooh weee
was she pissed.... and demanded to see it!!!!
So she comes over, all mad any pissey at me... and we start to watch the vid. Next thing I
know we're banging our brains out... !!!! All of the sudden, she gets up, grabs the
tape and hauls ass out of there!!!
Damn I knew I should have made a copy!!!! but as usual, I suck at getting them to
work right...

238mph, this might help. I got this from The Tail of the Dragon website...
LEGEND: The record time for riding the Dragon is nine minutes.
True to some extent. There are riders past and present who can run the Dragon from the Overlook to the Crossroad of Time (9.3 miles) in nine minutes and change.
These riders have been riding the Dragon for more than 10 years and know every nuance of the road.
This was the original timed section for records back in the 1990s when Deals Gap Riding Society was formed. To be official one had to make the run from the Overlook to the Crossroads, turn around, and return to the Overlook. The total time was divided by 2.
From what I remember hearing from the locals, some guy (another "local" of course) on a "race prepped" (former WERA rider, I'd guess) early 90's GSXR750 made the two way trip in a little under 18 minutes. That would be an average speed of around 64 mph.
From my past experiences up there, a "spirited" pace WITH traffic would produce an average speed in th low to mid 40's. Of course, tons of folks could do better, I'm sure, but probably without making a more than questionable pass or two. One could probably subtract 2 to 5 mph on a summer weekend day.
As for where the "official" start and end of The Dragon's Tail is, basically, it starts about a half mile past Tab Cat Bridge and ends at the Crossroads.
Here's a map that shows the names of the major curves:
http://www.tailofthedragon.com/maps_dragon_road.html
I'm sure most of ya'll probably already know this, but these folks run probably the most comprehensive website on The Dragon and the surrounding areas. Not to mention the fact that they are real nice folks too boot!

Hehehehehe I guess 7:30 is pretty good then!!!!
Of course, I was on four wheels.... but to shave a minute and a half off shows how
sick of a machine I built to run the Gap!!!
Then three years later , I went all out and built the Beast... 1000hp but I never got to
run it up there... Managed to get banned by Car and Driver "One Lap of America"
and the "Sliver State Classic" hahahaha what fun!!!
Oooops, I didn't mean to JACK this thread so bad!!! It's all Gunner's fault!!!
