I'd been told the day before the site went down, that he either had just gotten back already or was going to be back the next day. So actually I think he has been back the whole time it has been down, and it went down basically pretty promptly on his return. It's possible that what I was told was wrong on the timing though.
Hopefully it is merely a technical glitch and only coincidental that prior to leaving he said he might shut the site down rather than have given types of posts on it, which posts actually increased while he was gone, quite a few for him to find on getting back. But three days is a long time to be down. Still, hopefully a coincidence only.

Actually, before too many rumors start circulating my understanding is that Dale will be gone on vacation for approx. another week and nobody has the keys to the house to hit the boot button (joking - obviously the server host doesn't monitor things too closely) .
I'm relatively certain this is not a case of the site owner getting pissed off and turning off the lights. 
Its not a bad thing altogether though - I haven't visited here for quite some time and there are some real good people around here.

sportbikes.net had a "owner got pissed and pulled plug" episode,
he plugged back in when he realized his histrionics were ignored and the people just created cycleforums.com
never logged back in to SBN either, wasn't any reason to. let the child have his toys.

Most unfortunate...............with the PNW Rally coming up in less than 2 weeks (Aug 14-20) it would of been nice to push the topic alittle just to rally the troops.
All I know is I'm meeting Vinnie on the 12th in Billings and headed towards Mt St. Helens. Board or no board we're going riding.

ST, hopefully you are correct. I was speaking with someone very closely with the board from the very beginning, saying that Dale either was already back or would be back the next day, the day before the shutdown, but it is possible he was wrong.
Obviously, if he is still on vacation, that would explain things totally and would be much preferable -- then it would be just a truly weird coincidence that he had said he might shut the board down over a given cause right before leaving, and then after there having been while he was away plenty more of those posts, voila the board shuts down right at the time that reportedly (but perhaps wrongly) he was just getting back.
In other words a coincidence that he'd just said he might shut the board down in a given circumstance, that circumstance happening, and then bang the board shuts down.
Because he's not in the habit of saying all the time that he might shut the board down if given content continues that he does not like. It's the first time I saw it, and I assume he was saying it because there was some truth in it, an actual motivation of his that he might indeed close the board down if such views continued to be posted, rather than just being empty words with no truth, that he would not even consider doing so.
If he said it all the time then one might dismiss it as histrionics. But not so, I don't recall any other such statements. Actually, if he did deliberately shut the board down over that matter, over not wanting those views put out, I personally am certain it would be out of a sincere (though sincerely wrong) belief, not out of histrionics.
Anyhow hopefully you are right as the board -- as does this one of course -- provides many means for friendships, good acquaintances, good times, and is a valuable repository of information.
