chain tools
so it looks like the best thing to do is to get the emgo or motion pro combination chain tool (breaker, presser, rivet punch). could do the same thing with a grinder, C clamp and a rivet flaring tip, but it's hardly portable enough to throw in the saddle bags for a long or remote trip. question tho: i've heard a coupel cases of people breaking the motion pro tool. i assume the emgo is nearly identical. is there a better quality option out there? or is the breaking just the result of incorrect use?

incorrect use usually
grind head off pin, THEN use chain breaker attachment
i have learned that lesson the hard way
i've got a motion pro tool, and it has lasted 5 years, 4-5 chains at least.

what to do when u'r on the road and don't have a grinder? think 2 month DS tour, like what sagot & spam did. i guess in that case if u change a chain it's only gonan be when one breaks, in which case breaking the chain isnt an issue.

I also Have the Motion Pro. The problem is that the Chains are so Hard Nowadays, To save the Pin that pushes the Chain apart, I grind the pins when at home. I have done a Bunch of chains and had to refinish the Heat of the Pin pusher once!

mine didn't break until the 3rd chain, so taking it along for a 2 month tour (unless you eat chains) shouldn't be an issue.
