plasti guage it a waste of time..... get yourself a caliper and bore gauage and measure like that..... make sure the cases are torque together..... this is the ONLY way to get the measurments right....

I WOULD NOT run the mains that loose.....in fact i still run the factory clearances in my turbo on the mains....if they are not reall tight....let it go and run the same bearings....BUT do increase the rods....

now...put it together.... i am gone.

I aint gonna post on this toopic anymore...UNLESS it get out of hand again...like say you guys are talking about assembling the engine in a vacumme chamber that is deionized and injected with argon...a inert gas....LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

Got Doug cussing!

Come on Doug, we know you are holding back.

Please tell us how to compensate for variations in barometric pressure when setting up bearing clearances.

I learned something PACK The Oil Pump with Grease? I had planned to put a new Oil Pump in my bike and Of course I wondered about it being "DRY" and pulling the Oil up Thanks Dr. Doug jr.

SO Karl, change #1 and you are Done. We all know that they other Doug has "Flown the Coup" and is a very infrequent visitor here now. Karl, the Barometric Pressure was Below the Belt!

VH:
I don't know what Doug means by "packing" the oil pump with grease???

But I do intend to spin the motor manually w/plugs out to get the oil pressure going before firing it up.

I wasn't aiming at you w/the baro reference; just a friendly jerk on Doug's chain

I can't change #1, blue is as thick as they get, eh?

I put white lithium grease on the lobes before installing. This helps the "dry" pump suck quickly.

as for the rest of the story...as Paul Harvey would say....

when i started in the industry...i was told by a older man that taught me..... he told me this

"son....if you come here dumb as hell.....you gonna leave here dumb as hell..."

LOL

I stayed there for 5 years......lets say i learned quick and fast.....LOL

VH...

the zx12r ha G Rotor oil pump gear design...very good unit....just like the dodge muscle cars had or have....but you have to pack the rotor lobes with grease so a suction is created...so the oil pump will prime itself.

Karl, My last VH on the subject is looking at everything and KNOWING that every Bearing is slightly different in size, I would exchange #5 inserts with #1 Inserts. I would also exchange # 3 with #4 and see if the tolorences even out at about .0021 and .0022. The Put the eingine together.

Thanks Dr. Doug jr

Doug,
we are all learning with the help of folks in the Biz who share: like you , DMeyer, Noonan, Brock, DaveO, Cheeseman, et al. We also learn from each other, albeit at a slower pace.

I understand why others in the Biz don't share, but am just glad you guys do.

Folks like VH, Trenace, me, et al will assuredly keep asking dumb questions, so please keep yr patience.

Cheese: yep, I have heard that before

Psycho: yep, thanks for the info!
