Fuel Cell Mod
I don't imagine I'll get many "Oooh's and Aaaaah's" from this crowd about this modification but the hell with it, I'm happy anyway.
To me the biggest drawback about the 12 was the pityful tank range. It is the only aspect of the 12 that made me wish I still had my 11.
Problem fixed, see link.

I just keep extra fuel in some zip-loc baggies in the trunk. I also have a 3/4 inch pipe fitting in my pocket. This is a much easier way to smoke crack! LOL. I guess it's whatever you're into!

...good job for what you're into, Bob...don't let these soft-butts disuade(sp?) you...your tank looks better than some of the 'trunks' that some riders strap on their bikes when on a tour...if I had the funds and know-how, I'd design a couple of wedged-shaped tanks (like the shape of Eclipse's P-38 saddlebags), make it safe somehow (in case of tip-overs), and call it done...or how about a modified rear subframe that'll hold a safety cell within the confines of the tail section?...that would be waaayyy cool!

Interesting............
Heroin just ain't what it used to be.
Just kidding man. That's an interesting set up, how damned far can you go with both tanks full??? Hell I'd probably need tires before I'd have to refill with gas if I had your set up.
When I run the stock tank down to one bar I'm ready to pull over and take a break anyway, you iron butt fellas' have my respect.

Hey, reguardless of looks, I think you've accomplished a minor miracle. A lot of work lead to vastly improving the ZX12R's range. The documentation & pics on the website is also really nice-good job! I'd be really curious how many miles/hours more you get from it. Let us know when the weather clears how it worked....
Thanks & good work!

Hey NinjaBoy!
This is for you : Good talking to you too you tennesse butthole bandit.
CrotchRocket- I just called them and they said it would be finished the 1st week in march. Which doesn't help me in being able to ride it to the prostar races next fri,sat sun and then bike week so I'm not too happy about that. The mechanic that's working on it is at kawasaki schol now.So I'm fucked.I'm going to buy another bike. I'm tired of this no bike to ride shit.

Very professional set up!
Where I'm form, there is an abundance of 24 hour gas stations along I-40, I wouldn't be too concerned, but with your experiences and where your riding, I think you created the perfect set-up. Very nice!
I tried to talk some of my buddies into a "Butt Burner" run. Not the "Gold" in 24 hours, since we'd have to maintain a 62.5 ACTUAL MPH average. I take too many "smoke breaks" to pull that one off. Doing it on the interstate feel almost like we would be "cheating", but when I did 916 miles of backroads in 36 hours, I couldn't even think about riding for a couple of weeks! For the pin... I can "cheat"! Still haven't found any "takers" yet.
I know it would be tough, but I don't think it's really that hard to do. I put almost 69K miles on my '97 7R in less then 3 1/2 years and I have 29K on my 12R. Realistically, 95% of those miles are tight and twisty back roads.
Still, it's hard enough to find someone willing to just do a little 250 mile day's ride on the backroads. So, I'm not looking that hard for an IB or BB partner.

I dont know about the handling....
Do you think that would guarantee sixth gear wheelies?

Re: Handling
"Do you think that would guarantee sixth gear wheelies? "
- I'm hoping
I don't like the "top heavy" looks and I'm sure low speed handling will be a bit off too, but if you look at it another way, it's like carrying a 45-50 lbs passenger that always leans the right way in curves. Shouldn't be too bad.
As for the idea of having a cell that looks like hard saddlebags, if you did that, you wouldn't be able to gravity feed the fuel and that would add weight, which is a bad thing.
I'm surprised about the positive feedback here. thanks guys.

...I was thinking of mounting the saddlebags/tanks high and in parallel with the tail section (which is higher than the bottom of the rear portion of the tank and the top of the muffler, no?)...anyway, just an idea for styling reasons...I suppose you could even 'hide' the tanks by covering them up with soft vinyl JoeRocket or whatever saddlebag/tail trunk shells and go 'ingcognito' even...make your fellow iron-butt riders wonder how you can go all that distance with a stock-appearing 12R...

I'm sure the tape will be great. Hate it that you can't make it to the gap though.
I bet Gadson's school will be a great experience. I went and watched a bunch of street races today. Had an AWESOME time.
