MIcron Serpent 180 HP
Talking to Ian from Micron at the Indy Show, he says that their pipe & map = 180 HP. Base was 164.

Id have to see it on the dyno! is that pipe and map only?? kind of hard for me to believe 180? with no advancer or K&N's..

I saw the dyno graph (for what that is worth), and yes I told them that they have the worst website in the free world.
I also asked Ian why is the pipe stainless and not Titanium. His reply was that a TI pipe was not durable on the street. Some of the guys running the Muzzy TI have some miles on them without problems, don't they?
Oh yea, the Muzzy display was rather poor.

I like the new colors that Micron had at their display. I have been looking at various websites (including Micron's) and the new stuff isn't shown anywhere. They should definitely get it together in this respect.

Man, that is laughable!!!! They must have a *factory freak* bike at 164hp stock!!
Lets see Harry ZX12, ZX12Girl, Y2kZx12, Dave in Daytona, etc, etc... all dyno'ed at 180 or above. Some at elevation!
Jeez, Micron decides after the 00s & 01s come out to finally do some R&D....lol.
Sorry, but I will NEVER purchase a Mircron pipe.

Rocket, Ive never seen one I liked. Then coupled with the fact that they released the *rooty tooty fruity colored* pipe, completely turned me off of them.
I cant speak for EVERYONE I listed, but Im certain most had the following mods (from memory):
-pipe (Akro or Muzzy...but Y2K has a Yosh.)
-PC3 or (R)
-timing advanced
-K&Ns or stock filters with screens removed
I know Harry's and ZX12Girls were very close. Both were at elevation on the same dyno (DJ250)
I believe DaveInDaytona dynoed on the same machine at the same elevation and got 180+. Y2K has access to a DJ150, and Im pretty sure he is at elevation too.

Hey I actually liked the "scorched" pipe. But then again, I thought it changed colors while you were riding, and the hotter it got.

180 is awsome, if its a bolt on "180"
I had the engine at 181 with minor tweaking and a yosh/PC-III combo.
one dyno I've used is less than 300 ft of altitude. But I always post corrected numbers with accurate correction factors. At least as far as I know they are accurate.
The other is at 700 somthing ft altitude.
Another is at 500 somthing.
One thing for shure thou, they make nice power at sea level. in Maine on a cool July night on vacation this summer, after a cold highpressure front came thru the day before... I took the bike out at zero and I mean less than 100 ft altitude ride on the ocean roads and it was noticeable how well the bike was running.

Gee Rocket,
What was it about my display that you felt was "rather poor"? Did you feel that the very cool rotating boat anchor and sexy chick at the Micron area overshadowed actual parts that we were showing?

Doug, first off let me say that I love your guys stuff. But having said that, the only bike there was a Mean Streak. HUH? Also, did somebody steal your billet crank?
Did you guys have catalogs? I got a price guide and a flyer with Dave's card, but no catalog. Admittedly, you guys were gone Saturday by the time I got over there.
Doug, what is your opinion of the Micron pipe?

I have a micron on my 00 12r, and If everything goes right (weather)I will be going up to see SWFT around the 1st of March and I think we are going to put it on the dyno. So not only will you all find out, so will I.

Minor tweaking... like ign timing, fuel adjustments, modded airfilters, no cleanair, heat blanket etc.

Rocket - Sounds like a "HAPPY" dyno (164). Also, a 10% gain from just a pipe is fantastic! That must be that fabulous Serpent system, I've heard so much about. Last I heard it was going to produce 8% more HP then the other leading pipes. My personal experience with Micron was in the local shop one night I heard one of the mechanics cursing. I go over and ask Whats-up, he replies what a piece of shit. He's trying to get the head pipe on a 12. It turns out that the bolt pattern (holes) on the pipe (Micron) would have had to be ground ALOT for the pipe to be mounted. They returned the pipe and the second had to ground (not too bad) to be fitted. The pipe itself looked to be very well made and I liked the way the end cap bolted in. The pipe made about the same power as several other pipes they had tested (about 7%), but not as much as the Akro, Muzzys, or Ti Force.
PS - I'd like to know how Titanium is less durable then stainless on the street.

Titanium gets stronger with each heat cycle. Its one of the few metals that "work hardens". That also means it becomes brittle because it cant stop. I've seen a Ti pipe crack at the flange mounting area. The crack was tig welded and the pipe is still in service as far as I know. Maybe this is one reason most makers shy away from using Ti other than cost.
The force pipe from what I've seen (3) is not a good choice on the street. The midrange has a huge sag in it even thou its a 4-2-1 and adjusting the A/F ratio only gets rid of half of it. Check out some graphs of them. You cant miss it.
It is a very nice looking pipe thou. The welds are awsome and the sound is nice.

Was that SAE or STD?
FYI-dynojet calculation for SAE was as is correct. But for many years the formula used for STANDARD corrected hp was not. The used an incorrect "standard" temp and 'Barometer" constant. It was 29.30 and 70 degrees, where in fact Standard is 29.92, 59' and no humidity. (never a reality as far as the humidity goes. So the new dynojet viewer that is available has this corrected STD formula. On a run on a 250, SAE was 96.4 ft lbs and 172.78 and STD is 101.30 ft lbs and 180.93 hp. This is on 1 for smoothing.
Un-corrected was 96.69 ft lbs and 172.69 hp.
SAE is a "DETROIT" standard.
STD is a Sea level standard.
This is just to show that anyone can throw numbers out, but unless there is info like what correction, smoothing was used, its just numbers that signify just a guide line. Even when comparing apples with apples, there is dyno "errors" to take into account.

With the Muzzys Ti and Stainless, there is no difference in HP, only weight.

i had a ti-force pipe on my 99 busa and it saved alot of lbs,sounded awesome,and had no problems

Believe it or not I am not exactly sure. I beleive it is the serpant with the gold canister. But I never actually saw anything that says serpant.
