I had a simular problem. If I was getting on the bike in first, second, and third, then eased up and shifted up to sixth, the FI light would come on every time. If I took it easy, the light woulen't come one.
I finally got my dealer to get me a new gear position sensor under warranty and haven't had a problem since.
I was a wierd deal. I coulnd't figure out why getting on it would make a difference but something was being effected by it.
Since replacing the sensor, I've had zero problems. Something you might want to look into.

I designed my own gear position indicator using the stock gear position sensor. I have noticed that it will some times mess up in the upshift from 1st to 2nd and also in neutral at idle. When it does if I just tap the gearshift it will correct itself. I would be willing to bet if you pulled the ECU codes after it happens you will find the bad gear position sensor code.

BMW, all the codes and how to find them are all detailed in the shop manual.
