Old bikes...

1976...I moved up from a Yamaha RD400 to a Kawasaki KZ900; my first big bore bike. I had the world by the ass! I was a happy camper! (Kerker header, K+N's) -ZXtra

I'll bet a lot of us had 900's

I got my 1974 Z-1a 900 in early 1974.19 years old and been in the Air Force for 2 years already. I loved riding that bike. It was the baddest MF on the road! I still have mine. I had a Yoshumura header,Dyna ignition and a K&N filter with the stock airbox. It put out more hp with the stock airbox than with 4 individual k&n filters.I weighed 135 lbs then!

My first street bnike was a 1985 Honda Saber 750. I really enjoyed that bike, but in my heart I really wanted a ZX-11. Well a few years later I got my wish, A nice shiny new ZX-11. Many years later and 24,000 miles on the 11 I graduated to the ZX-12R. Even though I don't ride as much as I used to, I still love every bike that I have ever owned. I still kinda want to get another dirt bike. That's the first style of bike that I had.

I bought my very first bike...a 75' new blue Z-1B in Ashville NC (original home of the HondaHoot) in the late summer of 75'...not yet a year in the AirForce...20 years-old...I rode the first miles in the driving summer rain from the dealer's showroom to my barracks in Fayettevile NC 325+ miles away...Bell Star helmet w/fixed shield (FOG!)... bright green Kawasaki nylon jacket compliments of the dealer...Levi denim jacket and jeans...black leather utility goves...combat boots...soaked to the bone, but it didn't matter not even one iota...I was a very, VERY happy camper...I LOVED riding that bike...I, too, was THE baddest MF on the road (well, at least in my own mind)...I wish I still had my baby (argh!!!!...what have I done???)...I weighed 185lbs back then!....ahhh...the memories...I wish to go back one day and ride the ride that started it all for me and my penchant for things Kawasaki....one day.....

Pics

Wirges pipes, lots of head and cylinder work and a set of 34's made this a really fun bike!!

Just sold this to a friend of mine. Building a 1327 for it now. Still the nicest bike around here. Everyone still sees it and says, Isn't that Jesse's bike? Proud of this one. Want a stocker now though just to preserve history.

My 72' Orange tank H1b was my first "big bike." Ohhh, aaahhh....I rode Z-1's, owned KZ650/750's, but the best of the bunch to me was my 81' KZ1000J. The first solid framed big Kaw that didn't wobble like a SOB. They still make them (as the KZ1000P police special) so it must be one of the longest running continuously manufactured bikes made. One of the best handling big bikes I ever owned...

In '76 I bought a '72 H-2. Had it for a while, and fortunately, lived through it. It had Denco chambers on it and had been bored and regeared.

In '81 I bought a '78 Z-1R. That was my first Z bike, and I have had at least half a dozen more since.

I haven't had one for about 5 years now. I'm thinking of selling my ZX-9R and getting another one. (I don't really ride the 9 enough to justify having it)

I got started on an RD400 in about 1985, I loved it! I want another one. It died in a garage fire.
A few bikes later I had a Z1 Classic. The FI was long since gone, and I got some 33mm Mikuni Smoothbores... Damn that thing was evil over 85mph.
First Z bike? 85 900 Ninja.
Oh, and I weighed 185 then. I weigh 185 now, but with more muscle and less middle.
