We are building my silver zx12r. It has two goals:
1. Over 200hp at the rear wheel
2. Over 200mph on the salt!
The morning sun greets my silver bullet on it's last day before major surgery:
A bit nervous, my baby arrives at the good doctor of speed's facility:
She's placed on the table and prepped for surgery!
Naked, she shivers a bit on the cold steel table:
Slowly, her vitals are exposed to the doctor's tools:
Unconscious now, her vitals are prepared for removal:
Oil pan removal:
Motor on the bench:
Back view of complete motor on bench:
Cams and associated material:
Cylinder block after removal:
Pistons and rods:
Throttle bodies:
Here is my baby's heart and soul, gutted, split, and laying on the table:
As the new parts start coming in, we are boxing them into different groups. Ie; engine parts, support parts, etc...
Looking at the stock bearings, you can see how the crank wasn't all that straight:
The new crank. Stroked, straightened, lightened, balanced, ion nitrided:
New rods, balanced:
Doctor Mike Velasco, measuring the crank with a micrometer:
Well, things are progressing nicely. Received the bearings from the local Kaw dealer:
Today was bath day for the engine cases and the crank:
Remember da crank?? Time to put that puppy where it belongs!
New bearings getting ready to go in:
And a pic of the crank, getting all slick.
Add a little more lube:
Here's a shot of the crank and tranny gears going in. The crank's been ion nitrided, and the gears have been through a process called 'SuperTech' to take off any burrs and generally clean up the surface.
Next, the crank is put at TDC, the counterbalancer is lined up with the mark, and the lower case is bolted down into place. I could reach in, and roll over the crank and rods with my pinky on the counterbalancer gear, that's all the effort it took.
Here's some pics of head work done:

Steering damper. For those who don't want to drill...
