OT - Little Rock, AR #1 terrorist target on 11/18
Little Rock, Arkansas could be NUMBER ONE global terrorist target on the morning of Nov. 18th. Odds are there will not be another opportunity to have former presidents Carter, Bush Sr., Clinton, Former Vice President Gore, current President Bush and Senator Clinton... all in a open air environment for several hours.
Thursday will be to official opening and dedication of the Clinton Presidential Library. Special guests will include Bono and The Edge (performing during the dedication) and countless celebrities as well as current/former political officials. Security is currently and will be beyond tight until Friday night. Even though the event is directly adjacent to two major interstates, both will remain open during the ceremonies. Exits closest to the library will be closed all day Thursday.

We are currently producing all the signage to be used for the week long event (started last Saturday). There are well over 1,300 temp. signs for everything from seating sections and events listings to directional and security signs. We also doing armbands for the "Official Photographers".
The art department thought it would be an excellent idea to make a couple "slightly altered" armbands that will NOT be worn at anytime during the event. What do the say? "Official Assassin" with the Library's seal. Our company did not get or order any tickets for the actual dedication. They have long since been sold out (close to 30,000 tickets).
We did get tickets for the BBQ afterwards where over 10,000 lbs of meat will be served. Everyone here at the office will be going with the exception of myself. I'll be transporting the crew to and from the closest point as possible to the event, since many streets will still be closed. Since we will be closed Thursday afternoon, it will be a great chance for me to actually get some work done for our other clients whos' jobs have been put on the back burners due to the "Clinton Job".

Red - I'd advise removing that post. Never know where Big Brother might be snooping, and don't want to see anything silly happen.

I would not doubt that "Big Brother" has their eyes on a lot of internet activity. Can we say "Omnivore"? (aka "Carnivore" until AG Reno thought it needed a more PC name).
As for something "silly" happening, "technically" I have made no threat or even implied any type of action. The "arm bands in question" won't even see production till long after the event is over. We're too busy doing the "real" stuff right now, to be messing around with such foolishness. In our 47 years of doing business, we have been involved with countless political campaigns and related activities. In the case of former President Clinton, we did some work for them during his AG campaign in '76. We then started working very closely with all of his campaigns, starting with his first run for Arkansas Governor in '78. In his '92 bid for President, we worked closely with the national campaign from it's earliest of days. We also do work for numerous local, state and federal agencies as well as all branches of the military.
Because of this working relationship, we are often privy to information that has yet to have been released or my never be released. It would hardly compare to some of the professional security aspects that some of the other members here have with the government, but like them, I can assure you that our company and many of it's employees have been seriously scrutinized by agencies ranging from the FBI, US Marshals and of course, the Secret Service. Being one of the top administrators here, over the years, I've "enjoyed" about every possible "security investigation" the government could throw at you.... short of a full body cavity search.
Compared to what else can be commonly found on the net, my opinion of the "security risks and possibilities" involved with this upcoming event is hardly any sort of revelation to the various security detachments here this week. Not just myself and our company, but everyone from us to the porta-potty folks are closely monitored while working with any aspect this event. What I might say here is of little concern in comparison to what I actually do during my involvement. For me to be concerned of a "comment over a non-existent" item doesn't really become an issue on their radar screens. Even in these post 9/11 days. They have much bigger and serious things to deal with.
Sure, we are capable of creating very convincing paraphernalia from security passes, authorized personnel apparel and fleet marking of security vehicles that would be very convincing if not actual fool most security personnel. On does not foster an long term and intimate working relationship with these officials, candidates, security personnel or the government itself, by attempting such foolish hi jinx. Our company is a tad more "professional" then that. A very big "tad". Even if it was for a simple attempt to "sneak in" a certain event for personal enjoyment. Because of this attitude, we have been able to enjoy some of the "perks" and actually allowed into "secured areas" at some special events. This one is a event I have no interest in attending. I'd have to call in way to many "favors owed" to just stand in a crowd of thousands. I'll settle with the BBQ tickets and giving my employees the afternoon off to attend. They will enjoy having the opportunity to go almost as much as I'll enjoy staying and the office and working on the multi-page invoice we will be sending the library foundation for goods and services rendered.
quote: Library ? Do they have books in Arkansas ?
Sure we do. We just look at the pictures though.
Interestingly, it seems that BC has stuck with a "traditional southern" design for his library. If one was to look at any of the pictures of this award winning architectural marvel, they too would likely agree that it does not look like "A Bridge Into The 21st Century", but looks more like.... a mobile home on stilts.
quote: sounds like a party
Sure, if you consider walking a dozen city blocks only to stand in the security screening lines for hours (current estimate is 3 hours) next to some lady and her screeming infant. Then by the time she gets to the screeners, you get to listen to her argue with them over her not being able to bring the stroller in (website says its okay, the signs and the back of the tickets says it is NOT). When you finally get in, you start your march up the 100+ foot tall temporary grandstands. Wondering with each step if it can really hold the weight of 30,000 people. After all, they all do not look like they are on a low carb diet. When you final find your seat and after booting out the folks that have mistenly sat there... you can now watch the events unfold.
Of course, you are so far up in the "nose bleed" section, that it would have likely been better if you had just joined the other 20,000 folks crowded onto the downtown streets watching it all on big screens. Not only would you have not had to wait in the long lines to go though the extremely intense security, you would have ended up having a better view.
If that's a "party", have at it. You'll still be parked miles away and there is only a 30% chance of rain. BTW - don't try bringing any kind of umbrella. It is one of the "unaccepted items" too.

Oh yeah. I have already "shot" a President. I "shot" President Reagan when I was a stringer for the Associated Press. He was speeking at a convention in Indy on 6/19/85. Still got the official press pass. No.... they did not run any of my pics. I also "shot" Lee Iacocca that same weekend. They didn't run any of those either.

It is against the law to threaten a president or former president.. any military man reading that post would be obliged by law to report you to the secret service.. I humbly apologize for the profanity I uttered in my original post.. I didn't take it seriously as a threat but just in real bad taste.. Sorry for reaction//

billbisby - I salute you and deeply appreciate your long service in the Air Force to our beloved country and its leaders (beloved or not). Because of that dedication to this country, I also firmly believe it gives the RIGHT to react any damn well you please and as profane as you wish. You have earned it. Just as HDL, Harry, slug, CRoberts and the countless other members here who have put this country and the respect for it before themselves.
As many know, I have not served in any of our armed forces, but have the upmost respect for those that have. It is because of that very service that you and the others have done voluntarily is the very reason I did not have to.
My father was in the 101st during the fight for Bastonge. He was wounded there and after a brief recovery, he was assigned to the 42nd. In just a few months after being scared shitless and freezing his butt off in some farmhouse outside of Bastonge, he found himself marching from the Siegfried Line to being the first American troops at the gates of Dachau. He doesn't really talk about it much, but over my short 45 years of being here, from what I have heard and seen in pictures (his and from others there), I still can't imagine it. Just like I can not imagine what my nephew encountered as an officer in the 3rd ID in Iraq. Maybe not everyone served under such circumstances, but each and everyone of you were ready to do so if asked. For that, I again... Thank you.
Soooooooo.... If you feel it is in "bad taste" (and your pretty well correct in saying so), you have EVERY RIGHT TO SAY SO and you also have more than earned the right to say it any damn well you please. PERIOD! Still, like most men and women that have served this country, your are also a gentleman ("ladies" for the women, of course) and a honorable individual who has a far better grasp of discretion than folks like myself. Qualities I will always respect.
On the other hand, I have dealt with "Slick Willy", Hillary and their minions for over a quarter of a century. He, his wife and those around him never really garnered my respect of them as individuals. Maybe with the exception of Betsey Wright. She was a bitch and I never agreed with her, but she is one hellva strong and smart woman.
Still, I will always try to honor and respect the offices that former Governor and former President Clinton has held. I sincerely apologize if you found any of my comments as a show of disrespect towards those positions of great importance. It was not my intent.

No I'm much slower than you and thank you for your words.. Current political climate has left me feeling very irrational.. I don't worry about our survival as a nation but I feel that there are hard times ahead as we reign in our out of control entitlements and come up with some solutions... I think we are allowed to be "hotheads" occausionally.. Remember the Boston Tea Party... Thank you for your words and please excuse my lack of thinking before I put my foot in my mouth... Wish it was riding weather here.. That would make me feel better for sure...

It's a shame our favorite OK tracks are 148 miles apart (Thunder Valley vs. Hallett. Because the team and I go to Hallett at least five times a season for CMRA races or practice. Still, given the chance, your first beer is on me. Just don't mind that I'll drink a sweet tea or Mt. Dew. Its probably best I just buy "it" instead of drink "it".

I have a drink occasionally but my limit is two... If'n you get to the city (Del City).. give me a call at 670-3725.. I'm retired and keep the coffee pot on.. I know a couple of pretty good roads if you're up for about 100 miles of riding... I don't have the stamina for Hallett type riding but wish I had done it earlier in life... We got a lot of people around here who go to Hallett a lot.. I'll probably go for good ride there and spectatorship...

We best just stick with the coffee, eh? If you do get a chance to join your friends on a trip to Hallett, just look for the Backmarker Racing trailer. You won't be able to miss it. Though I might have the "stamina" (kinda doubtful though), I sure as hell do not have the balls. I just wrench on the team's bikes and ocassionally act like I'm the team's manager.
Back to the thread's title...
Even though there is a slight drizzling rain, there are still tens of thousands of guests here for the opening. Both Bushs, Carter, Kerry, countless current and former congressmen and women. as well numerous foreign dignataries (including the former Israeli PM). Not to mention a gaggle of hollywood and music stars. We see it as a great gathering while sadly, a terrorist would consider a "target rich environment". Luckily, it was the former and not the latter.
I'm actually impressed with the security. I spoke with one of the logististics directors yesterday and we both had several concerns. One of the #1 concerns was the fact that one of interstates runs right next to the library. So close, if you stood on the bridge, you could actually reach over the bridge's wall and touch the upper most part of the 100+ foot tall temp grandstands. Earlier today, some idiot thought it would be cool to stop on the bridge and let all his friends jump out. Their feet had just barely hit the pavement when they were swarmed by police and Secret Service. Where the security came from, few know.
The dedication is over. All the leaders and guests have spoken. Soon, the BBQ event will be getting started soon. My hats off to all the security that made this event go so smoothly.
