2002 ZX-12R

Has anybody seen any tests or numbers on the 2002 12?

I hear it is supposed to be quicker.

There are several at the dealers around here. I like the mirrors but that is it. I was hoping to say "Wow---I gotta have that" but sadly it just does not look as good as the 01-00. Something cheesy about it. I am suprised that no one has had feedback on the ride. I know several of the members had already bought a few.

Interesting....

My buddy at the dealership has mixed emotions about the '02 12 as well. From the pics I've saw, I know I like the mirrors.

Yep---ordered the mirrors today. Had plenty of left hands in Atlanta but the only right hand was one in Calif. I had the dealer send it red lable. I think they will look great on the 00-01's.

$100.00 each. I will post the part numbers after I talk to the parts guy again. He read them off to me but I did not think I would need them.

I do find it interesting that for a bike that "doesn't run warm" they sure did redesign a whole bunch of stuff to change from one fan to two.

I dono---the fans are a lot smaller and the radiator is painted black. It looks like there is one motor mount in the middle of the fans and boy, are those suckers close to the head!!! I have never had the 01 run hot even in hot, sticky East Tn. I have only seen it get up above 9:00 once so is it better?? Do we really need it?? Is two small fans cheaper than one big one? Is it going to be a problem having one motor mount?? Inquiring minds want to know. Hate that fake fiber material around the instruments and that cheap plastic that trys to hide the back of the front fairing. Also that unfinished steering stem nut and the unfinished swing arm nut. Like the dark blue though.

I have never had mine overheat per se, but the fan sure does run quite often . None of my friends will sit next to me at a red light in warm weather, the heat that comes off of that thing is unreal.

I need to go look at one in person. I thought they were black.

Nope---a real dark metalic blue with bright gold wheels. Man, those wheels are terriable--makes the thing look like some kind of toy model. My 02---Most likely other people would say "WOW, those wheels look great!"

'02 Model

I went to the dealership where my buddy Daniel works late yesterday afternoon, and checked the new 12 out. I definitely liked the mirrors and will eventually have a set on my bike. Other than that I can't say that anything just jumped out and impressed me. I like the way the new ram air intake looks, but I have grown to like the looks of the '00 & '01 model intake. It kinda sets the '00 & '01 bikes apart from everything else with a sort of "No Bullshit" approach to ram air. Some like it, others hate it, I used to hate it now I think it's cool.

I liked the new windsheild, hated the "city light", and liked the new front fender. I thought I'd really be impressed with the updated cockpit, but really wasn't. If somebody makes CF pieces for it THEN it will look very nice. All in all it's a nice bike and I think it will sell better than the '00 & '02 models because it does look (and is) a more refined machine.

Daniel sold one yesterday, and he rode it after it was prepped. He said it felt meatier down low, which is what I think everyone was expecting. BUT as he and I were looking over the '02 model, the guy who bought the new 12 earlier that day, came back to the dealership to bring some paperwork by. He traded in a D model ZX11 on the new 12. I asked him what he thought of it so far. He said he loved it and that is stopped and handled MUCH better than his old 11. I told him I could relate because I myself owned 2 ZX11s, and that the 12 was a much more exciting bike to ride. He agreed but then shocked me by saying he felt that the 12 didn't have the torque down low like his 11. I told him what Daniel had said about it feeling stronger down low than the '00 & '01s and he said he hadn't ridden either of those models so he couldn't say. I told him he was probably trippin' and just needed to get it broke in before he starts making too many comments about the power. He said "Yeah you're probably right". He's gonna call me when the weather gets warmer so we can ride together. He told me he wants me to ride it and see what I think about it. He's a Jackson police officer, and rides with a bunch of other cops and told me I needed to hook up with them.

He was down at the dragstrip back in august when I took my 12 down there. We talked a lot then, and he said my bike impressed him that night and had a lot to do with him eventually purchasing a 12. He said when I saw it carry your big ass like it did I knew it was stout. He's a big bastard too. Probably 280-300 lbs. easy.

I told him about our gap event, but he said something is going on that weekend in Louisville, Kentucky that he, and some of his other buddies are going to.

Anyway, I'm done rambling. The '02 is a nice bike, and If I didn't have an '00 I'd gladly take an '02.
