Need Help, Bike fell over
In short, I am in Davie Florida visiting cousin in-laws. My ol' lady calls me and said to come back to the house because my bike fell over in the garage!!!!!
When I got back they had already picked up the bike. Supposedly a bag of mulch fell off a shelf and the bike fell on the right side and landed on a basketball. The right lower and the plastic tank cover have to be replaced.
My problem is: Now the oil light won't go out when I start the engine. Yes there is oil in the engine and no fluids came out when it fell. When I start the engine the oil level remains constant in the sight gage.
I don't have my manual or many tools here. Any ideas? I can't stay in this house too long with the kids without hitting 190+ a day!!!!!
Anybody else in South Florida?
Call if you can:

Oil sensor come unplugged? Just a guess.
Try an oil change. Maybe something "vapor" locked.
My $.02 , which aint even worth that much.

Most likely the oil sending unit either unplugged or the connector broke.

I believe if you unplug the Oil sensor the light will go out! So that is not your problem.
What you need to do is prime the oil filter! I had changed Oil one time and actually had to loosen up my Oil filter while the bike was running to get the air out of the system. I had it loose and had someone start the bike and opened so oil came out and then shut it. Oil light went off.

ditto what madmike said.
just loosen the filter 1-2 turns,
start the bike and as soon as you see oil running out the gap
between the filter and engine, tighten the filter.
USe a small catch pan so you will know how much oil to
replace, usually a couple ounces.

Thanks guys, the oil filter deal fixed it real quick. I have done every oil change since new in 2000 and never had to do this before.
I'm back on the road....Just have to shell out $900 clams for the plastic!

I've never had to prime the system after an oil change on any of my bikes. I've also never had a problem with the oil light remaining on.
I'll need to keep this info in mind in the future.

I've dropped the bike 2 times - EACH time I've had to re-prime the oil. Sux.

I was at a race once and changed my oil after a pass, and the damn light would not go off... I was in a rush and just could not figure it out? I just had to take a step back and think about it and I remembered the prime trick. it is weird how that happens sometimes. it was the first time for me also and I change my oil all of the time.
