What an outrage!
http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/Midwest/08/25/daredevil.motorcyclists.ap/index.html
quote: Often, one officer lamented, "their kick is to find cops, race by them, give them the middle finger salute or wave at the officer. They are out of sight in the blink of an eye."
Bullshit! I've yet to see a biker actively seek out a cop just to salute him. Now if the cop just happens to be there and it just so happens that I've been at WOT for 30 seconds or so, who am I to turn down such an opportunity

the journalism was outrageous, as were the reported activities.
sad, sensationalism make sbad name for all of us. but to deny there are asshats out there willing to do stuff like that is naivety at its worst. Or just plain lying to oneself.

I just read that article. I'm sure it's all true......HOWEVER......I see people in automobiles weaving in and out at high speeds EVERYDAY. And I drive in the lower 48 for a living. I see it in EVERY state,
EVERY time I drive through. Singling out motorcyclist's and talking about the high speeds is totaly unfair because the numbers are very lopsided towards the auto's in this case. The shear number of auto's as compared to motorcycles is proof enough that auto's involved in high speed accidents FAR out numbers the motorcycles involved in same. How many more 16,17,18 and 19 year olds drive auto's irresponsably than motorcycles?

Accidents
Well in 15 years of being a State Trooper I can count the fatal motorcycle accidents I have worked on one hand. That is good, but they are not singling out motorcycles. This article just happens to be about one accident. Then they try to explain what might have happen. There are other articles out there about autos, dwi, etc. Motorcycle fatals are up and they are just trying to figure out why. The public highways are not the place for these high speed stunts and videos.

No.........they are not. The price range of some of the quickest and fastest vehicles on the planet UNFORTUNATLY are within reach of a lot of very young and inexperienced people.

I think a lot of times is because u want to show off what ur doing, but as one matures you start to think what would happen if you fall off a wheelie on the freeway .
Sometimes is better if you find a lonely long road to do all that, but what happens? usually that sweet spot of road gets a lot of attention cause the cops dont show, and next thing u know it gets burned by the police department forcing riders to find another road or heading back onto the free way.
Me personally I try to do my wheelies off the free way , I've always had the fear of someone in a car or on another bike of running over my butt if i ever fall down. Keep it safe

I think the fear of being hit by a car is good, but some consideration for others is better. If a guy does a wheelie at 100mph + on the expressway, loses the bike and falls he hurts himself. What about that Grandmother, wife or child in the car that the bike hits? Thats my problem, I say a guy do this with traffic coming to a halt. I have said it a million times here, the only guys I have wood for in the street are the ones stealing bikes. I HATE those guys and try to stick it to them every chance I get. However, guys stunting on crowded expressways are putting innocent people in danger, and I will make that exception. For cars and bikes, if you want to kill yourself thats cool. GO FOR IT, just leave out our loved ones

An acquaintance of mine just got popped for doing a wheelie in front of a cop. Sounded like a weird thing to do. Am I right in thinking this is some fad or something? I was like "why would you want to do that?"
Problem for him is that the cop was all fired up and busted him fully. Towed bike, cuffs, trip to the station and HE CHANGES THE OIL ON ALL THE COP CARS! This guy is the shop for cops with car problems and this cop busted him anyway. Charged with the worst misdemeanor you can get around here I think. Criminal recklessness. (That right JU?) Hello lawyer, good bye money. Cops says "Oh too bad, I didn't know it was you, oil change guy, but I can't go and unarrest you now can I?".
I guess this is stating asking the obvious, but what good can come from intentionally pissing off cops and exposing yourself to a charge like that?

the cop can not show up to court........ I have had that happen, and the Judge told me, Mr. Harris, as a wise man once said "80% of life is just showing up!" case dismissed..... it was woody harrilson.
