Nice evening ride w/Paul from BC
Met up with "Paul" from Vancouver Island, BC on his 02' Blue Ninja, who was on his way North back to BC. He was heading North thru the Bay Area today from San Diego. Sadly I had to work today, so we didn't meet up until almost 6pm, & the fog was rolling in already so we knew it would be cold...
Headed up to my favorite twisties in the hills behind Oakland, -Redwood Rd., Skyline Blvd, Grizzly Peak, Wildcat Canyon, Bear Creek, Alhambra Valley, etc. Was very nice until we got up on Skyline in Oakland, then the fog came in heavy. We proceeded to enjoy the twisties, & we then went to the biker hangout above UC Berkeley called "The Wall," & it was completely socked-in there w/heavy fog & damp roads. Too bad Paul couldn't experience better weather on his visit, but we all know how the Bay Area is.
After The Wall we headed east to try to get out of the fog & it worked; suddenly it was clear & warmed up as we cruised into Contra Costa County on Bear Creek Road. We passed a group of "stunters" there who were doing their thing & were oblivious to our approach @ 70mph on a blind corner. Had to do slight evasive action but no biggie, dweebs.
Suddenly it got dark, so that put a premature end to the fun. I was running short on fuel so I escorted Paul to Walnut Creek so I could gas up. Was nice there, 67' at 8:30pm & all the "fresh meat" was out downtown walking between the clubs. Sadly, I had to head the 40 miles home so the kids wouldn't frEEk out (I typically don't ride at night.) Ah, a nice ride ended too early by darkness...sigh.
Was nice to meet you Paul (I forgot your username, "dpdPaul" or something like that?) I did get one picture; so PM me your e-mail Paul & I'll send it.
I also posted the picture on this website if you wanna see your ugly mug!!! :P

Enjoyed meeting you, & have fun on the ride home my friend!

Yeap, that's the guy.
I took him out for a 200 miler in San Diego.
Went to palomar mountain, ate some veggie club sandwiches, then to julian, where we had apple pie, and the to Mt. Laguna to check out the view of the desert.

Yeah was a fun ride; he said he was leaving this morning & heading north. Said he had to be back by Monday, & was gonna take I-5 much of the way "with a few detoursl"
We talked numerous famous No. CA roads (36, 120, etc.), & he talked about Hwy 97 from Weed, CA (No. of Mt. Shasta) to Klamath Falls & on into OR.
I suggested if he's on 97 he may as well stop by Muzzys... He took a couple pix so we should see more when he get's back.

We just had time for a short one (100+ miles) when he was here. We went through the banked roller coaster corners and up to Marys Peak.
I wish he would've came on a weekend. Good comp'ny that Paul:thumbsup

No, but he did tell me about how you took him down that long deserted road in the woods and then led him up a path to "see an old gold mine".
How did you explain the bowlegged walk to your wife when you got home?
The usual zx12r seat excuse?

Yep, I did make it home OK. I did take Hwy 97 from Weeb all the way to Oliver, where I participated in SBW. I swung by Crater Lake on the way up. I had seen the lake a few times from the air and always wanted to check that out. Was pretty neat. The 97 is a great drive. I wish I had more time to "ride" but I was on a schedule. Had to make it to Oliver in time for the "Burning Bike festival" lol. I actually missed the fire. I watched the show the day before so I was sitting by my tent drinking beer with some new friends. SBW was a great way to finish off the trip. Always a bunch of great people and Owen did a great job. I will suggest that he have a "bike washing crew", you know, bikini clad females with all the right "tools and equipement". I think that would be great.

I want to thank all the you guys that guided me around your favourite rides. I had a blast. Thanks for the hospitality, tanks of gas, food (great lasagna) and route suggestions. I just wish I had more time to ride them all.

Dino,
Those brackets worked great. The bike didn't wander around in the trailer. I did manage to bounce the back wheel from between the brackets the same morning I left your place. I had to chuckle to myself since I did mention that same morning, that it would take quite a large bump to do that. Thoses speed bumps at the Shasta Lake Resort are huge. LOL

Paul,
Glad to hear you have a good time; was nice to meet ya (for a bikeride Dino!)
Was meaning to ask ya (& forget to look close at it) while your were here....but whose tail bag were you using & did it stay put? Looked interesting w/the mini-bungee's UNDER the bag...kinda cool. Who makes that, how much, & what all were you able to carry? Do you like it?
I did get one great pic (of you, bike & the fog LOL ), so send your e-mail via PM so I can send to ya. Thanks for the great ride, too bad it was so short. Next time lets do a full DAY around here. Least you got to ride up in the Santa Cruz mountains, the coast, etc.

Dave,
here is the web site for the tail bag I had. I like it alot. I've carried a 12 pack of Corona bottles no problem. It holds on good. Never had anything move around back there, although with the 12 of Corona, I wasn't riding too hard. I did PM you but maybe got it wrong. I'll do it again.

Or I could keep my eye on the road and avoid going over the speed bumps at speed. lol
