Question for contact lens users
I have been wearing glasses for reading for about four years now. I only need them to read but I wear them all of the time because if I keep taking them off and on when needed my eyes keep adjusting and I get a headache. I am thinking about getting contact lenses. Do you have any issues with your eyes getting dry when you ride? I would be riding with a full face helmet and sunglasses mostly, in the summer the visor is up and I have sunglasses on for eye protection. Should I stick with the glasses or are the contacts the way to go? Corrective eye surgery is not an option at this time for me.
Long concise Red Elk post are welcome.

Alan,
I rode with gas permeable lenses for 30 years until this year when I had Lasik (awesome-I can see like an eagle).
I had no problem in "clean" environments, but any dusty conditions were hell and I found myself switching back to glasses many times. In general it was not a problem, however. You do need to watch out for a particular thing that can happen, though. (Contact wearers will chime in here) If you pick up a particularly onerous piece of debri in even one eye, it can cause an incredible amount of pain, eye watering and involuntary closure of both eyes immediately. You need to pull over NOW and can barely see until you get that THING out of your eye. Bad deal.
My habit was always to wear wraparound glasses AND my full face helmet. With the exception of a dozen or so of the instances described above, no problem. Keep saving your money for the laser, though.

i have contacts and have had them for 12 yrs. when i ride around town usually about 30-40mph with my visor up and no glasses they are fine. when we ride around on the weekends through town and sometimes to the next town i have only my protective glasses on 30-90mph there still is no problem. then anytime i ride with my helmet on visor down there is now problem regardless of speed. i have soft disposable contacts. i hope this helps alittle bit.

I wear soft disposable contact lenses. I do not have any problems with riding. If you flip your shield up on your helmet, your eyes may water a bit if you go faster than ~30 mph.

Been wearing contacts for 24 years. Wear 'em everywhere, even swimming, No problems. Go for the disposables, that way you always have spares and you dont have to clean them. One thing to note, not all contacts are created equal. Some are more flimsey making them hard to put in. One brand will fit differently than another, just like a helmet will. Just because brand X isn't comfortable doesn't mean brand Y wont be either. Ask the doc for 3 or 4 different brands and try them out. The fit makes a HUGE difference. I like the Bausch & Lomb "Seequence" disposables, wear 'em a week or two and toss 'em. I take 'em out every night, although I shouldn't need to, but they will last longer this way. One other thing to do is wash those hands. Your mouth has defensive bacteria to fend off germs, your eyes don't. Most people catch a cold by rubbing their eye with dirty hands.
This came up on the ZRX board a few days ago concerning Lasik. Gets into contacts as well. FWIW http://zrxoa.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5206
