Road racing & my broken ankle....

Well at least it's partially true. The road racing just sounded impressive!
Here locally some buddies have bought mini-dirtbikes, XR50's, 70's, etc. and converted them over with street tires and began renting a large go-kart track. I bought a Yamaha TTR90 and took it out Thursday night for some fun. There was 15 bikes from 50's to 100's (anything bigger is labled a cheater bike) anyway on a sharp left hander my peg dug in and I went down and broke my left ankle. Up until then I was having the time of my life!
Now I have at least six weeks in a cast meaning enough time for a big bore kit, cam and pipe. I've even talked Coby Adams into working the head, so....I'll be back!
Down side is no 12 riding for a while, oh well, I guess it's just the price us road racers have to pay.
:-)

What I'm gonna work on is ground clearance! I actually need the power 'cause at 200 pounds I'm down a little on the straights!
I tried a turbo on the 90 but only had 50' feet of extention cord for the blowdryer and it kept coming unplugged.

Okay Dan. Fess up. Were you wearing ALL of your gear? Full leathers, gloves and boots (I know you had to be wearing a helmet)? Dingo boots and jeans don't count. Were you taking the inside line an stuffing some poor unsuspecting 50 cc that went wide?

Get well soon.

I hate to tell ya this in your time of pain, But it goes with your topic, About small cc bikes.

You aint gonna believe this Dan, But I WON a brand new 2003 XR100 Honda 2 weeks ago, It was a door prize at a Honda dealership open house. They had a free hog roast and the XR-100 was the grand prize,

Sherm,
We all had protective gear, even though we're close to the ground and not too fast, ya still go down.
I had my Spidi boots on but my foot rolled in anyway. I'm gonna have some sort of knee and ankle braces when I return 'cause these bones are older than they've ever been!

Steve,
Lydia video taped us and I have a couple of still shots in my 35mm camera. After I finish the roll, I'll post a pic if it turns out.
Gotta admit.....It sure is fun.

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN! That's just friggin' great! Wearin' good boots and still broke your ankle. And you just HAD to bring up that "old bones" stuff. Just friggin' great. I could have gone all day (week... month... year...) without being reminded about our current amount of time we've been on this planet.

Just a painful reminder that it doesn't take speed and even with the right gear... shit can and WILL happen. So much for me getting that SDG 107cc Speed Mini.

Again, get well at a good Maxton speed.

Those little bikes bite hard! Many moons ago when I use to be somebody, I looped a Trail 50 that had no headlight, but still had the headlight ears on it...... 39 stitches later, my head finally stopped gushing blood....

Rich Oliver went under about 5 hours worth of surgery on his knee to repair damage and remove all the gravel when he looped his KX80.

God-dam little bikes.... They're brutal! Or it could just be we're all pretty stupid sometimes......

Bummer Dan, ankle injuries are not fun, I know. Try to stay off it as much as possible and if you're still not feeling well come DGVIII, I'm sure Bart will make you feel better. LOL

Sorry to hear about your injury. That's no fun at all.

But those little bikes are! I think what happens is that we got on those 'little' bikes and forget that they can/will hurt you. Toss 'em around like nuthin'.

I mean, I was dorking around the parking lot at the Kawi dealer on one of those little SMC's doing wheelies all over the place - and I could have really hurt myself or someone else.

They are a hoot, though, aren't they???

yeah I am sure Bart will give you a foot massage, just watch him. He gets carried aways and will start working up your ankle to your leg and on and on......Harry has him trained that way.....lmfao

Thanks for the responses folks.....I've got plenty of time to read and surf now!
Seems like it's been a month instead of a week, but I'm sure looking forward to riding (and "road racing") soon.

Sorry about the spill Dan. I've been thinking about my old bones too and maybe investing in one of these:

Maybe it would keep things from bending. And imagine all the cool sparks if you did go down.

Heal up quick,

Dave

Yeah, but it just might get a little hot in there.

Not to mention, um, burn marks from the road....
