Top speed help

I was with my bike in the west side of the island where there is a lot of wind and long straits.
My bike has -1 on the front, full muzzy and PCIIIr.

I felt the bike pulling hard but in 6th, I felt that the bike was forcing to pass the 11500K in the RPM's.(widn on the front).

Where do I start looking for more push on those rpms?

Thanks

With the gearing change and at that speed, ANY significant wind is gonna seem like alot more than it is.

You might have geared yerself outta top end contention - use the search feature and look for gearing related threads, there's a ton of em here.

No, the thing is that I could not reach rev. limiter.
Im thinking of putting more or less gasoline in the WOT in the hi-rpms.??

Stupid question, but were you tucked? I ran my bike for 2 miles WOT and couldnt hit the limiter with 18/45. Turns out I was abit lean at 100% throttle on the PC3.

I can't see how you couldn't hit the limiter with -1 on the front, that reduces your top speed significantly, to somewhere around maybe 182mph? I touched the limiter easily in the standing mile using 18/46 stock gearing and nearly using 18/44 gearing, maybe there is something wrong with your powercommander or another problem?

-1 in the front, and 190 on the rear, adn my bike runs 177.9 MPH on the dyno at the limiter....02 model so its the top speed limiter, not the rev limiter

have you modified the timing?

maybe it's all 3 symptoms. Wrong timing, not quite rich enough, and that headwind.

Seems like there is a correlation formula for headwind vs top speed factor. Something like 1 to 1 or something, I'm sure RAC4IT knows. (5mph wind = -5mph top speed?)

zero out the map on your powercommander or remove it entirely and try again

the power comander is at peak rpms -1 or -2 in timing and fuel at WOT:
9000 - 3
9500 - 1
10,000 - 1
10,500 - 0
11,000 - (-3)
11,500 - (-5)
12,000 - (-8)
12,500 - (-8)
13,000 - (-8)

I noticed that the bike feels like a monster on midrange but not so strong at peak hp.

Thanks for all your help since I dont have dinos here in RD.

My 2000 12 repeatedly hit 186 mph on the dyno with -1 front sprocket and a 46 rear sprocket. Also was running a 190 H2 w/ medium wear.

On a stock engine, I would run 0 Timing and be sure to seal up all the bad leaks in the ram air system!! (believe me...there are many BAD leaks)

If your map was done on a DJ250, it is most likely at least 5% too lean!

BTW, when I top speed tested my 2000 12 out here in the desert w/ Cycle World Mag. I hit 195.8 mph w/ stock gearing, pcIII, TiForce full pipe. I am 6' tall, 220 w/ gear and the air quality "mean" Elevation that a.m. was 2100 ft.
That set up on the dyno went 197.5 w/o any wheel spin.

Psycho, I will then put the timing on cero, that I remember made the bike run a little better.
then I will put 5% more gasoline on the map.
That means +5 on all the numbers on the map???? Rigth.??

Thanks

I would start w/ the 6000 rpm and above at 80 & 100% throttle.

Find a buddy to do roll on's w/ before and after the changes to see the gains. Pick a gear (4th) to do them w/ to allow you to swing through the upper revs w/o too much road speed.

I tested the bike and changed the filter to BMC Race, the K and N where very dirty and put more gasoline in the top rpms and it pulls like a train in top gear.
