Headin' Down to the Drag Strip Tonight.....
Yep, tonight is "Test & Tune" night at the local 1/8 mile track, pay $10 and run as many times as you want. A lot of bikes are supposed to be there tonight, and several of my friends are going too. Big Mike is taking his FZ1 and I guess I'm gonna take Lil' Red and finish off the clutches in style.  It's been a long time since I ran the 12R at the strip.
I'm actually looking forward to it though, and am curious to see what I can run. My best time was a 6.95 @ 111 mph. That was when I was at least 50 lbs. heavier, and the bike was stock with the exception of a bolt on can. Now it is geared 17/47, full Yosh system w/ PC3R. It should do better if the ol' clutches hold up to the abuse. I run at the strip with the bike set up for the twisties, so it's always a wheelie fest.  I started to lower and strap it, but that takes away a lot of the challenge IMHO, plus I'm too lazy to do it.  I'm sure before the night is over I'll get a chance to take a few of my buddies bikes down the track too. I know we'll have a blast. I may take my camera and snap a few pics of the insanity. Yeah Matt, they'll probably hook pretty good. BUT in an effort to save the clutch I don't really want them to hook TOO good, so I've got 40 psi in the rear. LOL!!!! If it spins real bad I'll just let a few psi out here and there until I find what I'm looking for. Just out to have fun anyway, and I'm sure all of us will have a blast.

Pump it up to 50psi and hold on tight. Everyone knows the ZX12s are IMPOSSIBLE to dragrace.

Otis, You know we'll have a large time for sure. I do plan on getting some pics. A guy is supposed to have a 10R with an extended swingarm at the track tonight, and some yahoo on a turbo busa is supposed to be there as well. I'm anxious to see what times those guys can run.

Rick, strap and slam that bitch...You will go faster that way!!!...In the front put 40lbs. and rear put 35lbs...If you put too much air you'll be spinning the wheel...
Set your RPMs at 5,000 and go on the last yellow...After the clutch is all the way out dont forget to make sure the throttle cant go anymore!!!...Shift just above redline without the clutch... GOOD LUCK

Whassup RICK!!!
Yeah brother I know I really need to lower and strap the bike for optimum times. You don't know how close I am to doing it this afternoon. BUT, if I lower and strap it I'll be able to really launch it, and the clutch ain't gonna be able to take that kinda punishment. I've only strapped and lowered it once and I can tell you this it was a hoot. I did multiple launches @ 7.5k - 8k and was leaving out so hard I could barely get my foot up on the peg to shift into second. I tried leaving out with just my right foot down, but I couldn't keep the bike straight. Just having some fun though. Oh yeah, and even lowered and strapped I was still carrying the front wheel a couple feet off the ground.
I did all that work for the Boss Hoss race, then all I got to do with them was one drag race against the small block bike. The rest of the races were roll-ons against the big block bike. Won them all though, and you gotta love that.

see now you should have been running a B model bike there Rick...I was getting 6.7's out of mine, @117 MPH.....of course I didnt weight as much as you did at the tiem either, so that makes a big difference, and my bike was ALL STOCK....still had the OEM 208's on it.....lol
Have fun man, I think I am gonna go watch the drags tonight, maybe even run the little green bike.....am curious as to what it will run....if I could get to a 7 even I would very happy with it....I dont see that happeneing though.....lol

Yeah, he's definitely getting better. That 10R appears to be the shot in the arm that Bart needed. I'm proud of him for sure.
Jim,
I can assure you that your weight was well under mine. When I ran a 6.95 I was pushing 300 lbs. WITHOUT gear. The B model bikes definitely seem to keep the front end down better which is a plus, but that takes all the fun out of it. Plus, wheelies FUCKIN' RULE BIATCH !!!! Being that tonight is test and tune night I know I'll waste a couple passes just to see what kind of time I can turn on a wheelie. Very cool to get a time slip with a 100+ mph speed when you tripped the beams with the back wheel.

just briefly....
Quick update fellas, then I'm crashing. It's been a long day. Went to the strip tonight and:
1. Ran bike.
2. Had fun.
3. Rode great wheelies.
4. Ran a best of 6.99 @ 110 & some change.
5. Smoked clutches. (golly gee, a shocker there ) Seriously, they are a thing of the past.
6. Had a large time.
7. Ran several passes a "donor" bike, an R6, and loved every second of it. The best run was me versus Richard Simmons (Big Mike) when I just barely got him. We ran side by side almost the entire run and I just beat him by a wheel. We were fuckin' stoked and were wheelying and shit down the return lane. (what do you expect from a couple of Smackhouse Crew Members )
8. Realized running a 6.99 with a bullshit excuse for a clutch ain't too damned bad.
All in all I had a great time at the track, and so did all the other deadbeat bastards that I saw while I was there. I'll try to post some of the pics before the weekend is over. Right now I'm pretty buzzed and just wanna go to bed. Good night you fuckin' pukes.

Here is me & Lil' Red versus the Deal-A-Meal sponsored FZ1 piloted by Big Mike.
Me getting ready to thrash Mario's poor little R6. I really had fun riding that little bike. I bet that little bike is still cussing Mario for letting my big ass make several passes on it. I gave him all the time slips, but most passes I made were mid to low 7s and around 100mph. I really had to rev the piss out of it off the line.
Let the torture begin.....
Some cat on a busa, he was running 6.30s.
Here was the best lookin' bike down there last night. After 4 years, I still love this bike. I couldn't tell you how many people stopped and were looking at it and saying that it was an awesome looking bike.
Even though I didn't run any good times, and limped home because my clutches were toast, I had a blast. I did some stoopid wheelies on Lil' Red before the clutches let go. If the clutches had held up I'd have easily ran my best time for sure. My first pass I made I just eased off the line and ran a 7.04. But I could tell real quick it was gonna be a short night, a 6.99 is the best I could do with the clutches being gone. That 12R is a handful @ the strip, especially when it's set up to banzai in the twisties. Big Mike wasted his clutches on his final pass too, but he had a great time as well. Wish you guys coulda been there.

dam you all watch the races in Pontiac today on tv....they had one bike go down yesterday, and 2 go down today....they are saying rider error, but 3 proffesional riders all go down in the same weekend, on the same lane???? I think there is more to it than that.....
