That is a crazy amount of cash ($529.00). It does a lot of things, but do we need all of that info?
Here is another alternative...it costs $78 US http://www.sdsefi.com/mmm.htm

I best part is it records your A/F and with the pc3usb they are looking into hooking them together. If you drag race this is a great tool. When I can afford one I'll get it.

Price is about right...most of that is in the sensor itself (probably 150+ or so..those things arent cheap).
I dont see anywhere that it controls the temperature of the sensor (although it is a heated sensor..just dunno if it controls the heat in the brain or not)...I would have to assume it does.
canada...that setup uses a narrowband 02 sensor...not even remotely close..or accurate.

I'm so all over this if it automates a connection with the PCIIIr/PCIIIUSB. Damn - why would i need to take my bike to a DJ250 for a single map (for 300 bucks), when I can map my own dynamically, no matter what, any time! Sounds like a FANTASTIC deal if it works that way .

I seriously doubt its going to reprogram your map for you on the fly.

I know it sounds to good to be true but
The Wide Band Commander is a universal product, it can be used on anything from a lawn mower to a Viper. Since the kit requires that you weld a boss to the exhaust, the bike guys have been a little apprehensive to install this kit. It looks as if the aftermarket exhaust companies are actually including the 18mm x 1.5 threaded boss on some applications, that's a good thing. I doubt we'll ever have a plug and play scenario for your bike, but there is potential for communication between the WBC and a PC3 USB

hmm... I may not be a good "wrench" but I'm a HELL of a programmer - if there IS an interface from the WBC to the PCIII, maybe I can make a small proggie for, say a palm to auto update the map based on trigger input... I haven't really played with the palm interface to the PCIII in a while. Alternatively, a small footprint pc maybe.. hmm. Time will tell what options are available - please keep us posted on this!!!

Oh I have no doubt itll generate some sort of output similar to your "map" that you can use to build your own "map"...thats gravy.
but making those adjustments for you..on the fly...well..that would be pretty impressive..and put alotta dyno tuning shops outta business.

Hardracing.com already has them down to around $469.00 While the unit doesn't tie-in with the powercommander, it has some neat features that could be handy for tuning or running. It has (as I understand) a memory of about 10 minutes that you can download to moniter your air/fuel mix. (beats the hell out of looking down at 140 MPH to see what going on!) Plus an output (2 Amp) that can be programed to fire NOS,or shift light, etc. For those of us who live out in the boonies, or can't afford a dyno for tuning, I think that this thing can give some "real world" info. I'll let you know, mines on order. Check-out the info on the web-site.

I also am working on a software upgrade that allows 2 generic analog channels to be viewed and configured to display other channels (boost, temp, fuel pressure). The configurable outputs can then be hooked to one of these sensors instead of TP.

With this item I can tune my own PC3 for optimum f/a ratio...Record the performance of the TPS, so I can adjust it for Max. Performance.......I Like being able to do it at home myself...
But I would still need a Dyno to tune the the ignition, Nitrous and Maximum HorsePower...Too bad they cant make some kind of portable Dyno for tunning HorsePower at home...
I think its a good tool though...

It's still an open loop system and will not adjust fueling.
The trick would be to have a system adjust the fuelling from this products readings (ie - closed loop)

D, exactly. When the hell are these bike companies gonna put a real computer in these bikes.
We need a federal crackdown on exhaust emitions to force these manufacturers to put some kind of OBDII system on these bikes.
This is the software I use to tune my 02 ss camaro.

I'm sure we'll see it in a few years although I'd imagine it'll be more like OBDIV/V.

I would think one of the biggest challenges is the slew rate...C'mon, how many car engines do you know that idle at 1000rpm, and can rev to 12000 rpm in less than three seconds. A motorcycle engine's A/F ratio would change much faster than a car can, methinks.

Swft, yea thats true. But the GM computers in the 02 cars are very fast. Way fast enough to cope. But the real bennifit would be the interpolation of maps.
WOT the pcm runs under different set of maps. So dragracers would work with VE tables. While road racers would work with MAF tables.
Basically timing calculated from a combination of several maps. As is the fuel. So tuning a turbo kit would be as simple as switching injectors adding a fuel pump with more volume and software changes.
Have you guys played with hondas closed loop systems on bikes at all?
I'll be willing to bet they are the first ones with a real closed loop system on the 1000.
This HP Tuners software really opens up the guts of the GM computers for all to see. I didnt think the system was as robust as it is.
I've worked with Several aftermarket systems like Motec etc. and they are very primitive compared to this GM PCM.
The Data logging feature is nice to watch and adj the long term and short turm fuel trims.
Come on Dynojet, how about a replacement computer for the bikes? !!!

Too many variables between manufacturers for Dynojet to realistically come out with a system that woked correctly - not a hit on Dynojet.
Unless the manufacturers were to switch to a universal vendor for their fuel/timing and programming supplies then I don't see how they could tie in all the required info to make a closed loop system work correctly.
Having said that - this wideband commander looks (to me) like it is the second (Power Commander being the first) step needed for a closed loop system.
Real time analyzer would have to be next and software with it to adjust the Power Commander based off of Wideband Commander readings.
Or sumthin...

I would suggest using a three wire sensor vs the single wire senor. I spent 100 bucks on the a/f meter and 3 wire sensor. It worked very well. For all of you truly automated wanabes, the motorcycle industry will not start using that technology until Big brother mandates strong emissions. Cars are equiped with closed loops systems. They know how to manage the emission on the bikes quite well. So don't look real soon. The Muzzy MMs system has this capabilities, but who has 1k to spend on an ecu>
