My 10R to 12R Comparison
OK.. I finally got a chance to go ride with a guy who has a broken in ZX-10. I made two mistakes though. First, he a damn good rider.....damn good, the second was that I let him take me on some back roads that he knew and I had never seen before.. How does cresting a hill at 70 only to find a 70 degree left hander waiting for you..Can you say pucker!! In any case here's what I think
Because he knew the roads he led and was alway at least 10-15 bike ahead. Not that I was trying to run him down (I couldn't) I wanted to watch his brake lights and body english to give me some type of indication of what the upcoming corner was like. The 10 is fast. There were times that we had 1/2 miles straights. When he punched it, it squirted. There was no way the beast was going to hang with him on those tight back roads (I wasn't expecting to).
After about 35 miles and a few skid marks (on the ground and in my underwear) we stopped for gas and switched bikes. Ahh the moment I've been waiting for. First, the shit is ridiculously small. Feels like my old Garelli moped!! Going into a corner is more of a thought rather than pushing on the bars. We pulled out of the country roads and headed for the highway with him leading on my beast. SSSSSshhhhhiiiiiitttt the 10R pulls hard. I couldn't tell if I was gaining ground on the 12 because I was too busy trying to keep the front end down!
Final conclusions. The 10R are is a monster. I shall call him Mini-beast. Having said all that, I still would not trade my beast in for a 10R though. The 10 feels raw...too raw. It doesn't feel refined. And it's noisy as hell. I know I'm nitpicking but ....well it's noisy. And comfort, forget it. And hour and I'm done on it. You have to get the RPM's up to start pulling like the beast and when you do, the front end gets light (that happens when it's pointing in the air).
I guess it all boils down to the type of rider you are. If you are a weekend canyon carver/track rider, the 10 is your machine. If you plan on putting some distance in, cut a few canyons and still be able to stand, well I choose the 12. Either way they're both great bikes but the 12 get's my vote. By the way, we both are bone stock...except for all the chrome on the Beast!
Oh the next time we ride, we'll do roll on..both stock mind you, and I'll be brutally honest!!

will keep my 12...have said it before if I were gonna trade a bike in on a 10, it would be my 6RR and I will keep the 12.....
