Wheelie Question............

I got another wheelie question..... As you hit the upper rpm's and your front wheel just starts to lift the handlebars shake a little side to side just as it lifts... Will a steering dampner fix that or stop it?????

Depending on how much you crank on the steering damper, it will eliminate the headshake.

I've not noticed any shaking with power wheelies in first and second but a couple of times in third gear under very hard acceleration there was a feeling of "lightness", almost like "power steering" at the handlebars. I really don't know how to describe it. I surmised it was because the suspension was unloaded and the front tire was just kissing the pavement and the stem bearings were not seeing a full load. Even with a wheelie the stem bearings are under a little load, the weight of the forks and front wheel. Each time I have experienced it I've just relaxed my grip on the bars and rode it out. Got to get a damper.

I don't ever recall feeling it as the front wheel was lifting - usually comes up quickly enough that it wouldn't happen. But I get it when the front wheel is coming down and just "kissing" the pavement. I especially notice it when I bang a hard shift from 3rd to 4th at around 130 mph or so indicated - staying hard on the throttle with the front wheel just inches off the ground it will set down lightly up around 140-ish on the speedo and wag the bars pretty hard for just an instant. I don't think it will toss me off, but it DOES get my attention!

No damper yet - but I'm thinking about that Muzzy's damper.

This is true, the ol' Scotts made all the difference in the world on my 12. Wheelies touchdowns are pretty uneventful now. But I know shit could still go wrong, damper or not.

On my bike - when I am at the strip. I power wheelie in 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

While it is starting to come up, it slightly rocks back and forth. Until I got used to it, it felt like I was kind of losing control. The higher that it lifted after the first couple inches, the smoother it was!!!

Now, I don't know if you guy's have this issue!! But now that I know how the bike is going to react....it's normal action to me!!!!

It does not thrash back and forth like it's out of control!!!!!I would be interested to find out if the Steering Dampner will fix this little issue!!!
