ZX-12R as 2up sport tourer
Just wondering if anyone could provide any feedback as to the suitibility of the ZX-12R for two-up touring? Just how accomodating is the ZX-12R for a passenger?

I wouldn't recommend either, except for short rides.

in a college town, the girls kinda force u to give rides, which are nice...but...its nice to have a 1200 motor compared to all the other 600's around here when giving rides cause that extra engine helps make the moto not get bogged down by the extra rider

Not looking like a ringing endorsement. However, understand that my fiancee has ridden on the back of an R1 and GSX-R1000. Relatively speaking I would imagine the 12R to be a decided improvement...no? It also looks like Corbin does not make a passenger seat for the 12. Anyone aware of any other aftermarket seats? thanks.

I thought that corbin did make a second seat. Perhaps I'm wrong and it was someone else.

yeah, vincenthill has a real nice setup for passenger.
the 12 isnt exactly a goldwing for the passenger, but definitely better than alot of other sportbikes. passenger comfort aside, the power/torque and weight of the 12 makes it pretty capable of 2up riding.

Unless the passenger is pretty small she (presumably) will find it cramped for long trips.
For long two up ZZR, baby. Or FJR 1300.

Biggest problem is that there is a little bit too less space for foots but other than that it's quite good - expecially if yours girl isn't very big. And the bike handles the extra weight surprisingly good. I've done over 5000km trips with a passenger and didn't get too much trouble.

how come they dont make adjustable passenger footpegs, since they have adjustable rearsets

You got 2 options maybe 3. Buy another bike. Get a smaller woman(maybe she has a flat head and dad owns a liquor store too!) or have your current woman customized with shorter legs.

12 for 2up
I tried it with my 03 zx-12. It was dropped two inches. Great for her because now she could get on the back by standing on the curb. I think it was stable. This was her first ride so I had to over come her weight trying to make the bike go straight in the corner. I wouldn't say its the best bike for 2up but the way the 12 is situated made things more comfortable than the 9 I had. Not to mention you need the HP of a bigger bike for 2 people.

If ya have a choice, the Busa or ZZR are more passenger friendly.
The 12 was Ok for about an hour at a time for my chick and she'd be hurtin at the end of a 200+ mile day.
Corbin doesn't make a rear seat for these but they will make/modify sumthin for ya if ya go up to their factory.
The Busa has dual Corbins available and the back rest is also an option.

2 up is doable but not that much fun. It makes the bike feel heavy and handle slugish but it still has shitloads of power. And at about 100 MPH in second the front wheel just lifts off nothing much you can do about it? except quit accelerating I guess? I have riden 3 200 mile days in a row on the Gap and surrounding roads with a 110# girl on the back. It was still an awesome ride but we were both very tired at the end of each day. Otis has taken his wife to the gap as well. I believe that Harry did too? It is fine for short around town rides but I wouldn't want to long distance tour with a passanger and I have a Corbin seat and Heli bars!

my wife and i ride all the time and she said its a nice ride but the seat could be softer. i am looking to make that better for her . so we do 2 hours then stop fill up and get a good strech in then hit the twistys and high speed on the autobond

...adjustability is limited, if not out-right prevented, by the position of the exhaust muffler...ya' might gain 1/4" of leg-room before the pegs etches the muffler...I think...

anyone that thinks the 12 wont handle 2up is really mis informed, I watched Rick and his wife rail through the gap last year at the DG event and he was right at the point of dragging pegs.....comfort is a relative term...my 12 is very comfortable when compared to my 6RR for passangers...but when compared to a Goldwing, fails miserably......I have seen a pic of a guys 12 that he fabricated a tail bag mount that doubled as a seat back for the passanger.....that was a slick deal, but I can imagine it was hard to keep the front wheel on the ground with a tail bag full of gear and a passanger on there too......
