Will history be kind to the 12 in ten years? So in ten years, are people gonna look back at the 12 and say it was a good bike?
I tend to think that my 2002 model 12 will still be one of the fastest stock motorcycles even 10-15 years from now.

I think it will be well-regarded as another member in a long line of big, fast, heavy Kwaks. Time will tell the story about its reliability - there aren't that many high-mileage bikes out there - but that looks good, so far.

My friend's BMW has 150k on the original motor....I'm curious to see how many miles can come out of the 12 engine. Dino was saying its the third piston that eventually goes...

Alot of bikes are considered milestones... '86 gixer '88 fzr1000 '89 ZX7
then the 900 thing in 93 & 94 the 98 yzf... I think the 12 and the busa will be considered all time stupid bikes for some time to come with the liter bike slugout thats been going on and will continue for some time... Now if i could just get back and ride mine....

Posted twice... and Im still confused.
What do you mean "stupid"??? Does this mean the "fashionable" 1000s will overshadow them?? Nah.
The Busa will be historical because it was first. The 12 will be known as 2nd best to most(owners excepted)
Kawi has continuously updated the 12.... where as Suzuki just adds BNG. Im thankful to have either bike to chose from. It sure would be lonely and boring whooping up on "other" sportbikes if there was no Hayabusa... :0

It will not be the Mile Stone the ZX11 was because it took almost 10 years for the Busa to really be the bike that beat it! 1 MPH here, 2 MPH there is not beating the 11, the Busa Beat it fair and Square!
The 12 will be remembered for what it "COULD" have been!

What the 12R should be remembered for was for Kawasaki's recommittment to building outrageous motorcycles. It signaled a change in philosophy that resulted in outstanding bikes. Prior to the 12R, Kawasaki was going nowhere, not taking any chances with design, unwilling to look in different directions. After the 12R, think about the new bikes that came out, like the Z1000, the new 6R and of course, the 10R.

Do not agree with you. The ZX12r came at the rigth moment, big bike big torque, big numbers, the busa company. The one that did not came at the rigth moment is the zx10r. Everyone knew that the zx9r motor did 155 rwhp with a big bore kit and more if put with smaller ports and they waited 2 long to offer something good. I like yamaha in that way they adverture with the R1 and the 5 valve engine is not even to its fullest potential.
Imagine in 95 a zx12r, no way. it will be with 140 rwhp and with the time kawa takes to change well we will be having that bike until like 2007.

I think it will be remembered as one of the great "riders bikes". A true great all arounder, do all, comfortably crank out the miles, sport bike.

No denying that it is hands down one of the baddest ass bikes ever built at this point in time and isn't that what we all want anyway? I don't know if that ever goes away. Vince is right on the money about what could have been. It just seems obvious that they bowed to pressure from the government. Why did they make the 12 sit so high?
