PING OTIS - OT need some wood work done

Chris, I was thinking about a SIMPLE rack that would hold three helmets and have a bar under it to hang leathers from. I would need two of them for our new trailer. I would want to attach them to the wall, but because the plywood on the walls are only 3/8" thick, I figure it would need a brace coming down each side to be able to hold the weight of the leathers.

Also, the helmet shelf would need to have a healthy sized lip and maybe dividers on it so the helmets could ride on the shelf while the trailer is on the road. That is unless you have some other idea on securing the helmets during transport.

The key features need to be compact (not much bigger that the 3 helmets themselves), lightweight, strong enough to hold the weight of three sets of leathers and easy enough to mount onto the wall yet secure enough to where it won't come off from the leathers moving around during transport.

Got any ideas?

Dave is on the spot!!!

Sherm, Looks like Dave found exactly what you're looking for. I seems to fit all your criteria, actually it may exceed your criteria.

Dave got it right Sherm. That looks like exactly what you're needing. I could build one of those for you, easy like.

Almost perfect, but might be a little wider than what I was looking for. Notice how the helmet is turned sideways? I could easily be a foot shorter and still work. Even with a big ole 24' trailer, space comes at a cost and every inch is being claimed by something.

Just my .02

Sherm,
It looks like the helmet has to be turned that way to fit. Probably made the unit a tad wider instead of deeper so people wouldn't be hitting their head on it and whatnot.

Oh yeah, and for the record Otis is a master at working with wood.

Not that "wood" Otis. He was talkin' about the kind you get at Home Depot. Hmmmmm... or was that at "Bus Depot"? Oh well. I hear your a "master" at both.

I was making reference to ninjaredneckqueerboy's subtle attempt at humor by writing wood (him referring to penis wood of course cause that's all he think about).

I am an OK woodworker with much to learn. Seriously though Red, if you want, I can build you what you are looking for.
