OUTLAW 1 - What happened dude?!?!
Peeps is saying you can't ride man! What's up?!?!
quote: Just ask Outlaw1 on the Bikeland forum how he did at the Gap with us and his lowered bike.
He got scraped fairings and "where is he?" award.
And it's not like we're AMA racers or anything.

Seriously, he said your bike was lowered.....how much? I lower mine too (an older 6R, an 00 9R and now an 00 12R) and I really like it. FWIW - I'm only 5'6 140lbs.

I will tell you, that at the last Gap trip there wasnt anyone that was SLOW. Some guys are faster than others, but none were slow. I was subjected to a reality check when we first rode. I was use to laying motor on anything that I use to ride with, and with most anyone I rode with. The guys form here that rode with us are exceptionally fast, and some of them very smooth and predictable riders. I will have my game face on this year, and as long as Bart dont triple apex me in a corner, I will be ready......lol

Don't ride a lowered bike in the twisties running with some wild ass moefoes or your gonna scrape BA, I was scared as hell that I was gonna rip off a foot peg or gear shifter/brake pedal, Or get my toe stuck under foot peg.
1st time riding with these guys and their damm fast. Lowered bikes won't work as well. As a properly set-up twistie machine,

I have generally raised my bikes for that type of stuff, but, being only 5'6", I like to have the bike at least a little lower than stock.
I have had my left foot mis-positioned though and drug my toe a few times. it's really an eye-opener!
So, Outlaw, I'm really curious how much your bike was lowered on that ride! Were you using the 3 hole 'bones, or the threaded adjustables?

Who the fook are you to question if I can ride.
BA Let me tell you this buddy, I went to the drag strip my first time and ran 1.7 60 foot times on a stock bike, stock height stock pipe stock everything. First time ever on a drag strip, And I rode the damm thing there.
I weighed 230 lbs.
Keith Dennis pro bike drag racer best times on a stock ZX12R was 1.7's in 60 ft, I have the magazine that published these numbers. I ran 1.7 my first time to a drag strip.
Get off me man, Its been a bad day.

Whoa, Norm.
BA was asking because on another forum he said lowering your bike doesn't affect handling. I told him to ask you about that since I had gathered from your last experience at DG with us you'd raise it up for riding the twisties.
Didn't mean to imply you couldn't ride at all.

In that case Jon I had better back her off.
BA I thought ya was gunning for me.
BA I run the adjustable turnbuckles. BA the Dog Bones were too much of pain and a little on the unstable side when changing height for drag strip and everyday riding. Damm bike feels like its about to fall over as soon as pull the links. Nerve racking, Turnbuckles are sweet.
I had it dropped close to 2 inchs front and rear last time I went to Deals Gap. It had to be forced to drop over in turn. And the rear end never gave gave any feed back. Hard to feel if it was spinning or kicking out. 0 feedback,
It did'nt help when I switched to Race Pilots right before leaving from Race Pirellis either. I made so many different adjustments in such a short period I just had it completely out of whack.
Forgive me BA for snaping back at ya.
If ya have any other questions I'd be glad to answer them if can.

BA I had my toe postioned correctly on pegs, Heel laying on pipe and it was still hitting the ground.
Take her back up to stock height on rear and slip your fork tubes up about 1/4 inch from top on tubes, So you have .250 tube showing on top of tree.
I have her set up like this now and pretty stiff front and rear as settings go, But not harsh. Good feedback.

One drawback on stiff rear settings is 2 nd gear wheelies on turn exits. She don't squat much on accel out of turn. You get used to it though. tend to keep right toe ready to tap brake pedal if needed.

Wow, I don't check in for a day and look at all this good stuff that has happened!
quote: Whoa, Norm.
BA was asking because on another forum he said lowering your bike doesn't affect handling.
Pretty close, , I realize it affects handling, but on that other site I was telling someone who was concerned that if they "..did both the front and rear the same amount, and didn't ride with a bunch of racers...that they would be ok".
Then I went on to tell them that my personal experience lowering bikes has been very positive, and that I've been to some tracks, the Gap, etc. I was just trying to alleviate their fears.
So, that being said!!!......
This was hilarious!
quote: Who the fook are you to question if I can ride.
BA Let me tell you this buddy,...
I really had no intention of making it sound bad! My apologies if it did. I really was just trying to compare your cornering experience on that trip to the Gap with the guys, with my own experience at the Gap and other places.
My foot comment was just me trying to tell ya that sometimes when I ride lowered, I get that effect too.
I mean, I'm a DRAG RACER first, corner-taker a distant, distant, distant 2nd!
Two inches is a huge drop, no doubt. I only dropped mine about 1/2 for the Gap or Mid-Ohio and Putnam Park outside of Indy. I lower the bitch to the ground for drag racing though.
Otis and Jonwright: Thanks for being there while I was out.
Outlaw, no harm done. I got what I wanted with the "2 inch" drop info. that you mentioned.
Take it easy man! Try some de-caff!! lol!
