Woke up the bike, went for a ride, a few ??'s

Felt good to be back on the bike again, it's time to do some work to it and sink some money into it. I have some questions that I need help with.

1. I need to get the TPS back to stock, I'm thinking that will help with the rich issue I have. Can someone please explain where I need to attach the brand new multi meter I am going to buy today to test where it's at and adjust it? Can someone please tell me what the stock mubers should be at? If I recall it was like 1.055 or something.

2. Where can I send my rear shcok to get refurbished and how much would it cost?

3.Where can I send my front forks to get refurbished and how much will it cost? Is is a pain to remove them?

4. If I finally buy a PCIII should I get the PCIIIR even though I already have an ignition advancer on the bike, or should I get the PCIIIR and remove the advancer so the PC can work? How do I know the map I install will be optimal without a sniffer?

5. Anyone in the Detroit area know and trust anyone to do a valve adjustment on 12's?

Thanks guys.

John at CTR, here in Knoxville, did my forks as well as Ninjaman's and a few of my other friends. I highly recommend him and he can probably do the shocks as well. His number is 865-567-5687. Tell him I gave you his name. Call me with any questions. He'll also throw in a cup of cornerspeed for ya! Lucky12

Yeah Chris, John is a nice guy and a straight shooter to boot. No worries when you send him something to work on. He'll get right on it and have your stuff back to you pretty damned fast.

I never thought about having my rear shock worked on??? If you ask him about that Chris let me know what he says.

Ok some answers for ya...........

The front forks are not too bad to take off if you've got the adapter for your Pit Bull.

I say put your stock advancer back in and go with the PCIIIR.

Rick I do not have the adapter for the pit bull, I guess I'll have to order it.

Yep....

I tell ya, it sure is nice to have when you are working on your forks. I think they are only around $70. Well worth it IMHO.

Just got off the phone with John, nice fella for sure. I am going to be taking my forks and shock off the bike and get them to him to work on.

Rick, he said for the shock, what they can do is new oil, check the nitrogen pressure and adjust if needed, and new seals, he says there isn't much more to do for the stock rear. Cost is $125 for the rear.

OK, thanks bossman, now can you describe for me how to get that measurement? I have a multimeter, where/what do I connect the leads from the multimeter to get the reading and do I do this with the motor running and hot or while the motor is off but the ignition is on?

Fish, I need to update my e-mail address in the profile, it's [ snip ] now.

But, I have done some checking around and Competition Accessories is selling new PCIIIR's for $313. I'm just going to buy new Fish, thanks for the offer but if something goes wrong with it, I want to have someone be responsible, and I don't want it to have to be you. I have no problem buying parts from friends on here, just not electrical parts, especially like the PC that has a history of not always wroking properly.

Otis.. TPS INFO FROM OUR OWN FAQ PREPARED BY Y2K:

[QUOTE]6. Setting the TPS. (Driveability)

This mod should be done after the timing and other mods because it will effect this setting.

#25 Tamper Proof Torx bit (with center hole) needed.

Theres 2 ways to adjust the TPS.
The first way is dynamicaly with the bike running.
Adjusting the TPS this way you dont need a digital volt meter.
Each bike is slightly different and this may be a way to adjust for those differences without relying on a set voltage or movement amount.

1- Warm up bike until the fan is starting to cycle, engine hot.
2- Loosen TPS adjustment screws.
3- Raise idle to 2000 rpm with idle adjustment screw.
4- Move TPS until highest idle speed above 2000 rpm is achieved.
5-Tighten down screws and readjust idle to 1000 rpm.

The second way is using a digital volt meter.
1)Take two 2" pieces of a strong THIN wire(I use .020 stainless safety wire) and backprobe the terminals on the TPS connector. Slide the thin probe wire between the rubber seal and the TPS wire. This will not damage the wires or connectors at all. Go across the Yellow/White and Brown/Black wires with a DIGITAL volt ohm meter, set to DC volts.
2)Turn the ignition on and tap the TPS with your finger CCW till it gets to the desired reading of 1.16 vdc. Dont ever use an analog volt meter when dealing with any computerized cars bikes whatever. (analog meters are the ones with a sweeping needle indicator)
You can always return the TPS to the stock 1.084vdc - 1.086vdc setting if the change is not an improvement in drivability.

Thanks Fish. So if I have 2 wires, where do I put each wire, I understand I have to slide the wire between the rubber and the TPS wire, but if there are 2 wires I am using, where are each supposed to go? And when you say "Go across the Yellow/White and Brown/Black wires with a DIGITAL volt ohm meter" , what do you mean by "Go across" the multi meter I have has two leads to it. Do I touch one lead one of the wires I have stuck in there and the other lead to the other wire?

I see the picture Fish, but that doesn't tell me where to insert to the two wires. Should I try to get one wire on the yellow/white and one on the black/brown?

Damn Dave, that was great. I couldn't remember if I had asked before, now I know why. It was 2 years ago, shows you what a procrastinator I am. Thanks brother for finding it for me.
