Shift Light installation question

I am installing one of those small little shift lights like shown here

http://www.second-look.com/html/shiftlight.html

And need to know what wire feeding into the back of the speedo/tach is the correct oneto use on an 03 ZX-12.

Someone said blue but there are several blues. One is light with some spots on it and at least one more is darker blue.

I prefer to get the tach lead up front because that is where I want to store the non-waterproof box. Can any one help me?

Thanks

Don

Don,
It's a solid light blue wire on my '00 model. I mounted my box in the trunk and tapped into the wire from the ECU but most people do what you're doing.
We all got off for Maxton and the reservations are made....are you and the 12 ready?

I just installed my Harlan shift light on my '01, and found that I could not get the blue wire to work for me at all. I checked the manual and it stated that the blue wire is a square wave signal (digital). The Harlan light would not work with that digital siganl, so I connected it to the negative side of the #1 coil wiring and set the Harlan light to "coil per cylinder". It works like hot damn now.

The wierd thing about the square wave signal on the blue wire is that I have to question why Kawasaki went to the trouble of converting the pulsing DC signal from the coils to a digital square wave. It seems like more work to to that, but then again they would have to convert that signal to digital at some point in the circuit anyways, so why not in the ECU? It would simplify the "meter assembly", which of course reduces cost (for the manufacturer, anyway).

Yes the 12 is ready and assuming some act of nature does not stop me I will be there. Shift light or not. That is mostly something I am trying to get put in for the article that will be done on the bike. Its a cool little unit.

I may even bring my new GSXR6000 too if I get enough miles on it before them

See ya there

Don,
Can I make a pass on that GSXR6000? With a big bore kit like that, maybe I can run REALLY fast....LOL

It seems the shift light I am using also needs the coil signal as it will not work on the blue wire. I will fix it after maxton is over.

I only got to ride the new 600 once so I will not be bringing it to MAxton.

Sorry but I missed the joke about the big bore kit. Can you explain?
