Cycleworld Jynx - Kurtis Roberts

This month, Cycle world did a feature on Kurtis Roberts. Apparently, that's right up there with a football team getting featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated prior to the Superbowl.

This from Superbike Magazine's website:

"The Proton team was testing at Valencia over the weekend and had sent out Kurtis on their best bike, the only one they had. Kurtis, who's been going not too bad, proceeded to highside the beast, splitting the tank and watching as the bike turned into a pile of molten metal.

There was only one marshall on the track with a fire extinguisher, who was on his lunch at the time, since the bike burned a trench in the track surface. To be fair, Kurtis looked distraught. Probably because he knew his dad was going to ground him or take away his pocket money. "

Man that hurts to see. They cannot afford these type of problems and need to make sure that the tank is stronger or better protected. I have not seen anything like this since the Harley split it's tank at Daytona and crossed the infield without the rider to threaten the other riders back in the early 70's.

I know of 3 factory RC-51's that have burned before this one. I know this is a new bike, but they seem to have an old problem.

Perhaps they're going about it all wrong. Maybe the crew should bring marshmellows, graham crackers, and chocolate to the next tuning session....
