Though thourghly impressive, it's only qualifing. 200 miles is a long sprint and he won't be on qualifiers.

You go Eric. Yah, that's qual Michelin. Hope the Duc makes it 200 miles! Doesn't have a very good history in that regard. The only recent Duc to last at Daytona was the 998R Mike Velasco built for Dream Team. Austin don't do so good at Daytona.

You gotta love it though, on a Q or not, that is an impressive lap.  My fears are like swft's, will the Duc last 200 miles????

Good chance he won't have that short fused motor in it either. 200 miles is a long way

I don't think the v-4 ducati will last 200 miles.... If it does eric will probably win.
Why the stupid fucks at kawasaki let eboz go to another brand is beyond me. I wish I could have seen him race the ZX-10!

This is a transcript of the Daytona 200 pole press conference. Because the FX race followed qualifying, Miguel DuHamel and Ben Bostrom were not able to attend.
Eric Bostrom (#32 Austin Ducati, 1:46.835, pole position)
Q Yesterday was such an amazing run. Today, what was the strategy going out for qualifying?
A Well, mostly we just wanted to focus on our race setup. And that's what we ended up doing. Had the conditions been maybe a little bit better, we probably would've slapped a qualifying tire on and tried to best our time yesterday. But it was windy out there, and we felt fairly confident that we had a pretty good lap yesterday and we could just rest on that. And obviously it seemed like we were going to be on the front row. So that's-we're here to win the 200-miler, not just to get the pole position. But it was a fantastic feat, for myself especially, and for Ducati. Myself because I've never even been on the front row here before at Daytona. And obviously a great job for the 999, which it's the first time here at Daytona. And also big thanks to Michelin for giving us the rubber to do that.
Q Have you talked to your team about what lap times you might be able to run in the race? Do you think they may have to de-tune the bike at all to run 200 miles, or what have they told you?
A Yeah, that's a good question. They haven't really told me anything. But I just ran on my race motor in the last five or eight laps of that session, and it ran real strong, so I know that's the one I'm planning to run on Saturday, and it sounds like with the 999, they don't have to de-tune it. It's a really reliable engine, I guess the most reliable they've ever had, by far. So I think they're really confident about it. I'm really confident in it. Because it's been great to us all throughout testing and in practice.
Q Ducati has never won the Daytona 200. They've been racing here since 1966. What would it mean to you, and to the company, if you were able to win it on Saturday?
A It'd mean a lot. It's been a great relationship getting started here at Ducati, and I think that would really-I don't know, I'm struggling for words there-it would just bind the marriage, you know, really nicely. I think that we're in a great position to do it. I have the bike and the tires and the team to do it. So I want to sit right here on Saturday evening.
Q It's been July since you've raced. Do you feel especially charged up to get back out there?
A Yeah. The last month's been real difficult for me, because every morning I wake up thinking about it, and it's kind of that whole month of February felt in limbo. I just wanted to stay straight and not bend myself up on my dirt bike or whatever. Because I've been looking forward to getting back to racing. It just eats you to watch the races, race after race, and know that, hey, I should be out there too.
Mat Mladin (#1 Yoshimura Suzuki, third quick at 1:47.640)
Q Mat, what's your feeling after qualifying?
A It was a good session for us. We got a pretty quick lap in there, and honestly, I think if I'd got it right, I would've had another couple of tenths in it. So we got a pretty good lap in there. I'm happy to be up on the front row. Although the front two rows, in a 200 mile race, it really doesn't make too much difference. So I think that all five or six of the factory guys, they'll be pretty tight tomorrow, I think, for most of the race, barring any problems.
Q You've won here twice. One of them you dominated the race. Are you looking forward to the challenge of maybe having to use some more strategy in this race?
A I won those races riding a 750 Superbike against V-twin 1000s. So, trust me, there was a lot of strategy involved. We had some good races. I just beat Nicky one year. It was a very, very close race. He actually drafted me down the line, and I had enough to get back in his draft a little bit and pull just back in front of him. But the one that we won fairly easily, that was the year that we had about three or four re-starts. So that was a good year for us, for sure. We had everything sorted out. I think we caught people off guard with our new bike that year, and that really worked well for us. But last year, Daytona really didn't mean too much as to what was going to happen for us for the season. We had a terrible Daytona last year, but, as I said then, it wasn't to be unexpected. We certainly didn't think we were going to come here last year and just clean up, because a new bike at Daytona is not always easy. And as I've said all along, I look forward to getting back to Fontana and getting back to sprint races where tires don't play such a big part.
Q How's the race tire situation this year as opposed to last year?
A You know, I think it's looking better. We've certainly had a year to set the bike up and learn a little bit about how to make it a bit easier on the tires, and things like that. And again, I guess that leads into the reasoning that I look forward to getting to other races, because we can put the setup in the bike that actually works the best, not the one that will get us through the race.
