Excursion thoughts?

So I'm thinking of retiring the trusty Durango for an Excursion V-10. Anyone have one? Thoughts?

Anyone with the diesel?

I'll be pulling a 24' trailer with three bikes, tools, at least four people, generator, etc. etc. etc.

BIG BIG BIG truck. I have an expedition and it is GREAT but hard to park/drive in NYC. If you don't have to worry about city driving and parking - GO FOR IT!

I have an Excursion! and I Love it!!!! in town figure aroud 8.5-9.0mpg if your taking it easy on the gas. on the highway it is weird I can get 14-11mpg? no reason why? at 65 it helps, bump it up to 75 and she starts drinking! hauling my trailer I avg. right at 8-8.5 depending on how much wind I was fighting.
I have the V-10, but If I could pick a new one I would probably go with the diesel. but they are hard to find in the used market. Oh you can even put a full sized air matress in the back Way Cool!! for the long trips!
Parking sucks but I take up two spots! and most of the time I park way out anyway. wouldent trade it for anything right now............ Well maybe one of those new Ford GT's ..... LOL... but it would have to be straight across.....

you will get much better gas mileage with a deisel....if I were going to opt for an excursion I would go for the desiel. I have thought about that in stead of getting a 3/4 desiel pick up. I have my gas 3/4 pickup right now, and while its a great truck and would pull the trailer you are talking about with ease, I like the gas mileage of the deseil and the torque for the mountains. But you wont be able to drive a deliel as fast as you would a gas motor. If you are someone that likes to run 85 all the time, then the gas job is prolly better suited for you. the V-10 is suppose to be a wicked powerhouse of a motor. and with the horse power, you are gonna lose the gas mileage...my 6.0L in my 3/4 ton averages about 12 MPG around town. That is with 4.10 gears in it. on the highway I average about 14 MPG. towing a trailer at 70 MPH, I get 9-12 MPG. At 80 MPH, i get 8-9 MPG. BUt it doesnt get much worse than that no matter how much faster I go. I actually got better gas mileage with my 3/4 ton moving up here to KY than I did with the 1/2 ton. And the trailers were about the same weight. I could run the over drive on the 3/4 and had to use Drive on the 1/2....just osme expierences I have had Jon.....good luck.....

P.S. An all black excursion with gray leather and a brush gaurd. Get the desiel and add a banks Turbo kit and a power chip....end up with almost 800 ft lbs of torque, and almost 500 hp.......heheheheheh an put smoe kickin tunes in it.......

I had a small Diesel Pick up truck and Diesel is one of the few things I really studued in school. Between the Turbo Diesels and the new computer chips, you can really hum on the highway and get real "FUEL" Mileage. The Plus's are Diesel is a lot cheaper on the Highway, a lot safer fuel in an accident (A Lot less likely to explode) and the only things to worry about is The fuel Gelling so carry the additive "HEAT" and for mataintence, just change the Oil and clear the water fuel separator! I had a situation where I could have gotten a neat ford Van with a turbo Diesel a long time ago and have always hated that I did not!

I hate to say it.. but get the diesel. The V10 gas is a pig.
You looking to spend $44 large on a tow rig?

I have a friend that just bought a new Dodge dually with the Cummins. He gets 21mpg hauling 3 cars. He paid $28k otd.

You should check out 15 passenger vans...

They are an under rated best kept secret...I have one but its a chevy, paid 29,100.00 + tax, regi. and my ZX12 fits inside with a 7ft. ramp, tools, coolers, kids stuff, and carry 4 people...Its a gas engine, 3500 extended, 7000lb. towing capacity...
