I held one in my hands (again)this weekend. It is pricey...$189.00 Canadian, but I am jonesing to get one for Sportbike West......there is lots of room for my camera, a snack, some agua, spare gloves (or whatever) AND it is aerodynamic at 300 km/h. I believe these packs have the option of being used as a hard shell tank bag....but I don't think it would fit on the 12 well at all. It does have these funky pads that channel airflow betwen your back and the pack, so that you don't melt in the hot sun. All in all very cool looking and appears to be very functional.

I think we're kinda close. Daytona and the Alpinestar SMX Plus boots with the full protective boot with the 'cover' on the outside count? I could imagine some suits made like that before too long.
Jeez - that would cost a fortune, wouldn't it? I think we have the technology now to do that. Question is, who would invest the R&D in making it?

I just emailed Axio about when are their backpacks going to be available, as well as finding out if you can change the straps to a different color, and here was their response (edited):
"We are currently in production and expect product availability early to mid-March. On this first generation of Hardpacks they come as shown on the website. For example the Chicane Hardpack in Carbon Finish only comes with the red straps. It's possible in the second generation there will be more options and features. "

Alpinestar makes great leather backpacks for riding. I wouldn't want one of these myself.

They look nice indeed. Do you like them better and why shaft?
I am still stuck on the Axio ones just because I need something with good protection for my full size laptop computer. It's more for doing the school and work thing then for trips.
Too bad dealers dont keep backpacks in stock so we can compare them all side by side.

I'm sort of partial to Alpinestars. I have a full leather two piece from them and the backpacks look to be built with the same high quality craftsmanship. I personally don't like the hard backpacks. If you're protecting a laptop, the hard ones would be better at protecting it if you went down. I don't typically carry stuff like that and if I did, I'd just be risking it, I guess.
I'm getting an Alpinestar backpack this spring.
