Torque...The newest cinematic masterpiece? My girlfriend and I went with a group of fellow riders to the Edmonton bike show yesterday (got to sit on an R1, ZX10r, and the new CBR), had some dinner, and then went to see "Torque". All I can say is "WOW!". Not neccesarily in a good way, but "Wow!". It is really short...about an hour and 20 minutes, and I think that's a good thing. The movie started out pretty cool...some nice twisties, sweepers, etc. Then they began to act....far too much machismo for me. I don't think normal people ever talk to each other like that. The stunts were kinda cool at first and then went way out of control. I wish I could ride like that. A stoppie on dirt...with street tires? I will try it, but don't think I will be able to pull it off (LOL!). Basically it is a good laugh and entertaining as long as you have no expectations of plot or continuity, or even reality (how were they talking to each other while riding? There was no indication of helmet to helmet communicators anywhere...just good for a laugh).
Has anyone else seen this masterpiece and now needs to get some closure?

I've seen the trailer and that's enough to keep me out of the theatre. In other words....I wouldn't pay .10 to see the movie. 2 thumbs down?

u know, i'v been wracking [sp] my brain tryin to think of a decent plot structure for a biker movie. realistically, it's kinda hard to make an entertaining movie, especially one that is entertaining to people other than serious bikers, with a subject matter like this. nascar did it with days of thunder, and i guess it was a good effort given the specific subject matter, but i always took it to be a bit of a lame movie cause it focused so much on the racing that it became kinda boring imho. still much better than this tripe of course.
i think what needs to be done is use the bike theme with a different genre altogether. like maybe a thriller/horror where a group of friends are on a weeklong ride and run into some kinda adversary. u coudl make it a blair witch kinda theme (tho not so crappy of course), or a better and liekly more realistic scenario would be to take the idea from that movie... i can't remember the name, but the one from the early 80s or so (i think) where the guy in his car is chased by a mysterious black tanker truck. goodness knows we're always dodgin cages that are tryin to take us out.
to give the writers more credit, i think the general concept used in biker boyz and torque really could work well if they just tried not being completely unrealistic and toned down the acting a bit. it just feels like these movies (judging by teh trailers i'v seen and reviews iv read) were made for 12 year old boys. would fit right in with the saturday morning timeslot.
Faster was of course an awesome movie, but it's a documentary, not a "movie" in the common sense. it's not really entertaining so much as it is interesting, and it's not something anybody not into sportbikes in a big way is gonna watch. hey, maybe what we need is a james bond movie that really focuses on bikes (more so than that recent one with the bmw)! now THAT could work.
Needs a life
living life, and loving it.

you want to make a good biker movie, come to DGVII and bring your camera....talk about stunts, how about Jon out on the ruckus doig dounuts....or us blasting down I-40 at 140mph....sounds like good movie material to me....we would have to see if Rupaul was available to play Bartina though......

Like biker boyz, where they shift a few times too many and race down a gravel road in the end ect.
That's the movies for you, Rambo walks in the woods with his machine gun and a handfull of rounds and caps of a few thousand lol, I could never guess where he got them all he must of pulled them out his ass.
It would be cool if they would make a real down to earth bike movie.

It was early 70's, Steven Spielberg directed, Dennis Weaver stared
Shitty movies that I watched while bored for $200 Alex.

that's the one. come to think of it, watching a version of Duel with bikes would be more of a documentary than a movie too eh?

I like the part in the trailer of Torque that shows the crotchrocket riding on top of the moving train and flipping a 180 and hauls back down it again....that alone is worth watchin for a good laugh.

WHAT TORQUE? Yea what's up (zoners)? the 1st thing I will say about the movie is 3 of the preveiws looked really promising! however we all new from the trailer that it would be weak but not that awful,2nd BikerBoyz was alot closer to some of the biker behavior I have seen it was entertaining in a realistic sense closer to what a lot of riders do 3rd CUBE on a Triumph! come on a 12 or a Busa more like it and all the other brothers on zx7's! ok I saw the tail lights of a parked Busa. the Aparila was diff. 4th the bad guys were ridin metric cruisers w/stk pipes! 5th the Hummer sounded like it had the 502 ci conversion kit!6th Jason Britton rocking chair rolling circle burner 7th 1 sec of a drag race pre launch 8th too much dirt riding (Charlies Angels) had the best (freestyle motorcross) action 9th u let the Y2K speek for itself! 10th like (BB)don't forget to wear eye protection! oh yea I liked the 2 main women they were hot!and CUBES dog was cool the 2 sport compact racers did not fit the image of their carsbut that scene was kinda trick. willI purchase it ? I don't know but they (HOLLYWOOD) REALLY @#%*@#* UP

If you love your bike, set it free. If it comes back to you....you probably highsided.
Anybody remember (or ever see) Little Fauss and Big Halsey? It actually didn't suck at all (especially in 1970). Starred a young Robert Redford, Michael J. Pollard and Lauren Hutton, music by Johnny Cash. Some great (now) vintage road racing ridden by some (now) old heroes.

The movie torque sucked!!!!! The unrealistic stunts made my head hurt. My two year old son enjoyed it though. He laughed as if I was tickling him.

canadamaxxer, Hope this is not a dumb question, but are you from Canada. I would like your opinion on the all black 12 for 04. Does it look as good as the picture make it out to be. Has anyone seen this bike in person yet?
Also, what can someone like me do to get a all black 12 from canada and have the warranty still in place. I've been told by the dealer that it would be hard to get it services and everything. Is this accurate anyone?????

Craigb29, yeah I'm from Canada. Personally I love the colour black (why is it technically not a colour????), and my 12 is black and silver, but may end up all black very soon. If I remember correctly, there was a black 12 at the bike show, and from what I remember it looked freaking great! As far as getting an all black '04 model from here, I would imagine that you would have to buy it here (good prices here too, for US bucks) at about $14,999.00, change the Speedo to a US unit, and if you're in California ....do the emissions upgrades, and then deal with the hassle of importing it through customs, etc. I don't know if it is legal to import a brand new vehicle, or if has to have a certain amount of mileage before the import is legal (heard some hints about Califronia having that law). If you'd like to buy it here, I will ride it for you and put about 16,000 km's on it and then ship it out (LOL!!!). Seriously, the warranty thing should not be a big deal. It would be the same as if a Canadian rider had some problems while riding through the US. The other option is to buy Canadian plastic parts and go from there....or just paint it.

Technically, black is all colors. White is the absence of color.Ninja- Do you actually own that poster?

Doug..... actually that's only half true... if you're dealing with light it's the opposite... all colors combined would be white....
always 2 sides to a story, eh?
