Engine is apart: What other stuff should I buy??

So, I have the piston kit on order, new bearings for both rods and mains, and a cam-timing adjuster thingy....oh yeah, and new valve springs and retainers as well.

What else should I freshen up while this beast is apart?

Did I read something here recently recommending the oil pump or something like that? If so, which one?

Thanks,

BA

I thought someone mentioned about the shift forks and rods were wear items, might as well look.Is the cam chain adjuster still an issue being replaced by Muzzy's manual one?

while it's apart I see no reason why a extra lapping of the valves is in order if you didn't do anything else to the head, maybe do the rings/hone as well? Look closely at the shift forks for burning/scoring/damage....If they look even slightly burnt....replace them. Remove the balancer & install Muzzys balancer replacement/plug. Shim the tranny too? Just some ideas...

Alright! Alright! I'll get ya's some pictures!!!

I thought about the balancer thing, but wasn't sure if I really wanted to do it or not! Kinda hard to un-do. I street-ride around town a lot and wasn't sure of the effect on vibrations during sub-4000rpm riding.

Anyone know about the vibes?

I'll ask the builder about the tranny gears too. I should see about getting 1st and 2nd probably. I did do the shift forks last spring.

DO NOT!!! Lap the valves!!! you will take off the protective coating! and they will be ruined in no time flat. our valves are very hard on the outside but soft inside. I have been told this by quite a few people.

WTF? Never heard that before....I know people who lap their valves more often than they change their underware...
