Spent some moola $$$ today, ZX-12R+

Ordered the JE Piston's 1287cc kit today!! Their site says 13.0-1 CR, but I plan on making it a little higher.
Cylinder block was sent off to Millenium Technologies too.
http://www.mt-llc.com/index_home.shtml

Head has also been sent off for some porting/polishing and whatnot.
Adjustable cam-chain whatchamacallit ordered too to make sure I get the right cam-timing.

I EEEEVEN went ahead and ordered the HD valve springs and Ti retainers since I HOPE to get richer and get nitrous one day.

My cost >>> $1,510 ..........but that's misleading! A friend owns a bike business and is getting things at cost for me,.....ALSO, I'm giving him a running 9R engine, complete. (value @ $700 or so)

We only briefly covered retail costs, but I think it breaks down like this:

Retail cost is something like:
Head work - $1000 for 'Stage 2' type of work
Piston kits run $1200-ish
Bearings - seems like $300-$350? (crank and rod)
Springs/Retainers - $350-$400?
Cam Adjuster - $60?
Gasket Kit - Dunno. $200? (complete engine)

Maybe others can do a more accurate job!

Better than heavy duty springs and ti retainers is to get the block O-ringed for nos.

You will want the HD springs and retainers. I think people were have problems with nitrous backfires and banging against the exhaust valve and knocking the retainers loose and then dropping a valve.

Ra, you're probably right. O-ringing the block is a very good way to go.

I'm with zxlnt though in that I think you'd still want the springs for a little protection against the reason he mentioned and/or valve float when on nitrous and touching the rev limiter. (hey, it happens.)

hell, it's all just protection...... kinda like double-bagging it. LOL

ZX12 Richard, I think Mill. Tech would normally charge $129-$179 for boring/plating per cylinder.

The Back Fire and banging (I think) is from using air shifters or any shifter than cuts the ignition off and on which allows the cylinder to fill with NOS and even bigger explosion that lifts the exhaust valve off of the seat!

BA can you tell me why you went with JE 1287 kit instead of Muzzy 1270 kit?

I was just wondering since most run Muzzys kit?

Since I run a stock arm, I like having the extra cc's and still having the engine look stock on the outside.
I picked JE over MTC because the pistons had deeper skirts.

???

The 1270 also "looks" stock, besides....the extra cc's don't make the difference in power....the compression and the rings do.

we shall see. all else being equal, there is no replacement for displacement. I'll take care of the compression ratio.
