It wasn't that many years ago that someone in California was trying to mandate additional health insurance coverage for all cyclist. That one got swept aside also, but seems to be creeping back into the polical and insurance writers back rooms.

In a few states, if you get hurt while riding a motorcycle, you health insurance plan at your work does not have to pay! It is considered the same as Sky Diving. Even driving a race car is covered!

Update -
Jan. 12 - A California assemblyman says an amendment to force some motorcyclists to be organ donors against their wishes that was attached to a bill he introduced is unacceptable to him, and he will have it withdrawn.
Assemblyman John Longville (D-San Bernardino) had introduced AB1200 to allow adults 18 and older to legally ride motorcycles without wearing helmets. California currently has a mandatory helmet law.
Longville later asked legislative consultants to come up with some amendments to make the bill more palatable to other lawmakers. The consultants came up with an amendment that states anyone who chose not to wear a helmet under the proposed law "is deemed to have consented to the making of an anatomical gift under this act."
Longville told the AMA that this language "is not acceptable to me, nor should it be to anyone else. As soon as I learned of this language, I asked that it be removed from my bill."
The language was slated to be killed during an Assembly Transportation Committee meeting on January 12.
AMA Western States Representative Nick Haris said that while the AMA supported the bill in its original form, the Association couldn't support the measure with the new amendment.
"Riders who wish to donate their organs should be under no undue pressure to do so," Haris said. "This provision makes a mockery of the spirit and kindness of voluntary organ donation."
A New Mexico lawmaker introduced similar legislation about a year ago and quickly withdrew the proposal after the AMA mustered opposition to the bill from motorcyclists around the nation.

CALIFORNIA HELMET BILL AMENDED, ORGAN-DONOR PROVISIONS OUT
The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) has learned that a proposed law in California that could have forced some motorcyclists to become organ donors against their wishes has been amended, and will be reconsidered without the organ-donation provisions.
The amended Assembly Bill 1200 proposes allowing adults 18 and older to decide whether to wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle. The organ-donation provisions, which had outraged the AMA and motorcyclists nationwide, stated that those who chose not to wear a helmet are "deemed to have consented to the making of an anatomical gift under this act."
The AMA worked directly with Assemblyman John Longville (D-San Bernardino) to remove all of the organ-donation provisions from AB-1200, which was granted reconsideration and has been referred again to the Assembly Transportation Committee.
"The AMA applauds Assemblyman Longville for his support of voluntary helmet use, and for responding to our concerns about compulsory organ donation," said AMA Western States Representative Nick Haris. "We encourage California motorcyclists to support the amended AB-1200."
