Gotta have mods

I have had my 03 ZX12R for about 4 years now and I would like to do a few mods to it to add some more power but more importantly, smooth it out.

So far I have a scorpion slip on which I'm going to get rid of for either an Akrapovic or Muzzy full exhaust. But right now with the slip on, the bike seems to run alittle rich. At least that's how it smells. Would adding a PCIII and getting the appropriate map help with this? I have also heard certain maps can help with how jerky and un-smooth it is. Is this true?

Also it seems to be sluggish off idle. If I have it idling around 1000 rpm and go to rev it quickly it chokes quickly then revs up. Is this a good idle rpm?

Any other gotta do mods that you can think of would be great. Sprockets for street riding, filters, anything that doesn't cost thousands. I'm a power junkie lol

Right now I'm going to do the obvious power mod..... a tune up. It has 10k on it and I'm sure the plugs are the originals. Can anyone suggest a plug?

Thanks a lot.

the stock zx12r spark plugs work fine. They should be ok at only 10,000 miles. I had both the akrapovic and the muzzys on my 02, I liked the performance of the akrapovic better. Now I'm running dual exhaust. You can also try a K&N or BMC race filter.

Stock Plug works great.

Off Idle issue? I would check and adjust the air screws on the TB's. Make sure they are even to start. With a full pipe, have them open at least 2 full turns. Use a manometer (carb stick) to open the screws up from there, making sure all 4 holes are pulling even.

BMC Race filters provide the most flow w/o dirt in the airbox.

Seal all the leaks in the ram-air = FREE HIGH SPEED POWER.

PCIII will always help the overall powerband, especially with a pipe.

Muzzy pipes make the most "Power Under Peak". You do not always ride around at redline.

From what I have been reading... its a good idea to go -1 on he front sprocket? For street riding?

It will get you to 190 mph a bit quicker if you are running a fresh 190 rear tire.

The Akrapovic gives the bike much smoother manners than the Muzzy.
The muzzy is a very free flowing pipe and you feel it in the bars and pegs.
Many people also have tuning problems with a low end stumble thats hard to cure.

Well right now I'm not liking how unsmooth the bike is down low and all it has is a Scorpion slip-on. Its jerky coming out of turns and I try to be as smooth on the throttle as possible. So I don't think the Muzzy system is gonna please me. So I guess im gonna have to spend the dough and get a Akrapovic system.

Thanks for all of the help
