James "Bubba" Stewart Wins Amp'd Mobile World Supercross in front of a Sold Out Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada
Carmichael takes his fifth Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series title
Conditions could not have been more different than the wet weekend in Seattle leading up to this final race. Hot and dry Las Vegas set the stage for the final showdown between Yamaha's Chad Reed, Kawasaki's James "Bubba" Stewart and Suzuki's Ricky Carmichael. The fans packed Boyd Stadium and it was standing room only right from the opening ceremonies, complete with an overhead jet fighter pass by Supercross sponsor, the US Air Force.
As the crowd whipped itself into a fever pitch, the main event began with Stewart taking the lead and keeping it the whole race. Carmichael and Reed battled for second place, but Reed couldn't catch the Suzuki rider.
With the crowd cheering, Stewart crossed the finish line, taking the Amp'd Mobile World Supercross title and ending one of the closest points battles ever. Carmichael's second place finish was still good enough to secure the (now) 5 time Champion the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series title. Reed's third place finish took him out of the running for the AMA title, an emotional ending for Chad who rode a hard season despite painful injuries.
The race will air on SPEED on Sunday, May 7, at 6:00 p.m. EST. A separate one-hour broadcast of the AMA Supercross Lites racing will air on SPEED on Sunday, May 13, at 8:00 p.m. EST.
