2006 Moto Guzzi U.S. Model Line Overview

New V 1100 Breva sport-tourer headlines European marque's 2006 product line, combines Italian heritage and soul with new-generation technology.

Woodstock, GA (2006) - Legendary Italian motorcycle manufacturer Moto Guzzi is one of the most storied marques anywhere, inspiring passion among owners and aficionados in every corner of the world. Since the first Moto Guzzi was produced on May 15, 1921, these finely crafted machines have reflected the sensibilities and timeless beauty of their Lake Como, Italy birthplace. Today, Moto Guzzi's exceptional 80-plus year track record makes it the longest continuously produced European motorcycle brand.

For 2006, Moto Guzzi celebrates its evolutionary eight-decade journey with the U.S. introduction of the distinctive V 1100 Breva, featuring a new-generation V-Twin engine and patented shaft drive technology. The "big" Breva joins the popular Moto Guzzi 750 Breva, and the 750 Breva's cruiser-styled sibling, the 750 Nevada. In addition, the 2006 Moto Guzzi line features the sport-touring classic, the California EV Touring.

With the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) ranging from $7990.00 to $13,490 for the feature-laden California EV Touring, owning one of the world's most respected and distinctive brands is an affordable alternative to more mass market choices.

NEW 2006 Moto Guzzi V 1100 Breva: A New Generation V-Twin and Patented Shaft Drive Technology Create a Top Sport Tourer

Named after the wind that heralds summer at Moto Guzzi's home along Italy's Lake Como, the 2006 Breva V 1100 has the poetic soul of a classic touring bike with the heart of a powerful sport bike. Equipped with Moto Guzzi's new-generation V-Twin, this big brother to the popular 750 Breva builds on the touring traditions established by the classic Moto Guzzi V7, which was the first-ever motorcycle to offer a large V-Twin when it debuted over four decades ago.

Today's ultra-modern interpretation of Moto Guzzi's V-Twin heritage keeps all of the low-rev character that has made Moto Guzzi engines so popular with enthusiasts. But that's where the similarities end because virtually every component in this compact 91-hp engine has been redesigned or improved.

The alternator has been repositioned between the two cylinders instead of in-line with the crankshaft and the 4 cm shorter engine has been installed further forward and higher than before, contributing to superior overall balance and handling. The automotive-type alternator produces a generous 650 W of electrical power but only generates current when it is actually needed, thus limiting unnecessary horsepower losses.

Ideal weight distribution is the core of the Breva's civilized ride. Moto Guzzi engineers have achieved this through optimal engine position. As a result the Breva enters turns like a dream, and provides even the tallest riders with a comfortable, ergonomic seating position.

The all-new crankcase features 10% lighter connecting rods, and the ratio between the connecting rod length and piston stroke is higher to reduce alternating mass inertia and vibration. Shorter and lighter pistons along with lighter rings have also been employed. Even the piston skirt has a new design and two oil jets now ensure improved lubrication for the wrist pin. New metal cylinder head gaskets have replaced the prior Klingerite versions for better thermal conduction and stud grip.

Twin spark ignition ensures predictable combustion with smoother power and less vibration for a significant overall improvement in comfort and emission levels. The valve seats are sintered and no longer in cast iron, and the valves themselves are in stainless steel for extended life and improved thermal and wear resistance.

A stepper motor air valve, inspired by automotive technology, guarantees easier starting, reduces emissions and maintains a stable engine speed. Pico injectors are installed in the intake manifolds, as near as possible to the valves, for more efficient combustion, more instantaneous response and reduced emissions.

Modifications to the crankcase, oil strainer and sump have greatly improved lubrication, particularly when the V 1100 Breva is carving through corners and during aggressive acceleration and braking. The pressure relief valve has been moved from the end of the lubrication circuit to the middle, so that excess oil is released from the pump's suction line, reducing power absorption and completely eliminating the potential for oil foaming.

Engine gas flow has been radically improved and power-robbing blow-by dramatically reduced. Special attention has also been paid to improving ease of maintenance for the "do-it-yourselfer." For example, the oil filter is now located on the outside of the engine to ease maintenance and get the owner back on the road quickly.

The 2006 Moto Guzzi V 1100 Breva is also the showcase for the company's latest engineering innovation, called Cardano Reattivo Compatto (C.A.R.C.), which translates as Compact Reactive Shaft Drive. The C.A.R.C system is integrated within a single-piece aluminium alloy swingarm. The pinion gear and the drive shaft are free to oscillate inside the swingarm and the drive shaft is equipped with two universal joints with built-in torsional dampers for optimum transmission response.

As a result, the V 1100 Breva offers owners the smoothest possible riding experience, free of the "jerking" motion that traditionally accompanies standard shaft drive systems. And, because the reaction shaft is not load-bearing, system reliability is unmatched. In addition, all the positive characteristics of shaft drive, such as fuel-efficiency, low noise levels and low maintenance, are maintained.

The ultra-rigid frame and single-piece swingarm ensure that riders immediately find themselves in complete harmony with the Breva V 1100. Damping is courtesy of a rising rate linkage system. A monoshock with hydraulic preload adjustment provides maximum riding comfort and adaptability to all levels of passenger and luggage load. The 45 mm fork is extremely robust too. Responsive, safe stopping power is delivered by two 320 mm floating discs with four piston callipers at the front and a single 282 mm disc with a fixed two parallel piston calliper at the rear.

From the classical front headlight to the rear LED light cluster, the Moto Guzzi V 1100 Breva embodies Moto Guzzi's flair for classic design. Twenty-first century comforts include a 'communicator' panel with active matrix LCD display. Riders can even access the onboard computer without ever removing their hands from the handlebars, thanks to convenient handgrip controls.

Touring enthusiasts will also appreciate the 6.3 gallon fuel tank which ensures minimal stops on longer journeys. Optional touring equipment includes integrated loading system panniers with mounting racks designed to complement the style of the bike and not spoil its looks when the panniers are removed.

The 2006 Moto Guzzi V 1100 Breva is available for an MSRP of $11,990, in Red or Black.

2005 Nevada Classic 750 IE: Easy Cruiser, Redefined

The 2006 Nevada Classic 750 IE combines the timeless styling of Moto Guzzi's popular cruiser bikes with today's latest motorcycle technology, a blend that will appeal to riders with an appreciation for the classics but a need for modern conveniences. Almost completely redesigned for 2005, the cruiser sibling to the 750 Breva features over 383 new or improved parts, almost 90% of available bike components.

As with every Moto Guzzi, the heart of the Nevada 750 Classic IE is its 90 degree V-Twin, now electronically fuel-injected for improved performance. The motorcycle's beautifully balanced frame already ensures a memorable ride, but a new Marzocchi 40 mm fork further improves cornering and precision handling. Rider and passenger comfort is guaranteed by soft suspensions and the two rear shock absorbers are adjustable to suit load. Powerful front and rear Brembo brakes include a 320 mm front disc operated by a four-pot calliper and a 260 mm disc at the rear.

Visually, the 2006 Nevada 750 Classic IE presents a fresh and contemporary silhouette, but without sacrificing its cruiser soul. The Nevada's side panels, shock absorber covers, seat, rear mudguard, tail light and even the rider footrests have been restyled all with an eye towards cruiser styling, but without the sacrifice of limited cornering clearance and below-par suspension. A brand new, ultra-modern instrumentation cluster now includes an LCD display. Redesigned handlebars, grips and clutch lever combine to give riders a supremely easy shifting position and action. Riding ergonomics have also been improved to offer excellent control and handling during even the most taxing rush-hour traffic. And, with a low seat height of only 760 mm, neither complex low-speed maneuvers nor short rider height present a challenge to the Nevada.

The Nevada Classic IE 750 is available for an MSRP of $7,990 in Grey or Black.

2005 Moto Guzzi Breva 750: Sporty ride for all shapes and sizes.

Since its 2004 model year debut the Breva V 750 has quickly introduced (and re-introduced) an entirely new segment of enthusiasts to the joys of riding. Its light weight, low 29-inch seat height, agile character, predictable handling and sporty naked bike looks make it an excellent commuter or weekend motorcycle.

The Breva V 750's style and stance is all about simplicity. The motorcycle's minimalist windshield, contoured tank, refined three spoke wheels and belly pan all pay attention to function and form - not a single superfluous component or styling vanity exists on the motorcycle. The result is a sports touring bike that weighs a mere 401 lbs.

2006 Moto Guzzi EV Touring: The Open Road Champ

It's that classic tradition of "Gran Turismo" - experiencing the open road in the grand European touring style - that makes the 2006 California EV Touring such a perfect choice for modern-day adventurers. From the moment this Italian interpretation of the American cruiser concept carves through the first curve, you'll feel ready for endless journeys - or short jaunts, should your next adventure be just around the very next corner.

The lines of the California EV Touring are timeless. While other bikes may try too hard in order to get a second look, this Italian classic captures attention for its always-elegant stance. Moto Guzzi's passion for heritage is apparent right from the start, including standard equipment styling cues like the bike's cruiser teardrop-shaped tank, chrome trim and spoke wheels. But, when it comes to technology, the California EV Touring is all about modern-day requirements. The 90° V-Twin features self-adjusting hydraulic tappets for a unique combination of a quiet but distinctive engine note and incredibly low maintenance. And, a three way catalytic converter with Lambda probe ensures ultra-low emissions. Whether ridden easy or aggressively, the California EV Touring's engine performs smoothly and predictably. At low revs, performance is enhanced by a balancer pipe between the two cylinders. Under aggressive riding conditions, an oil jet piston cooling system increases engine thermal efficiency and extends engine life.

In addition to Moto Guzzi's legendary engine, every adventurer needs great equipment to get safely and comfortably to the next destination. From heated grips that keep hands warm even during winter rides to protective foot guards and running boards, the EV Touring has been designed to keep riders comfortable and focused on the road ahead. Standard Touring equipment also includes color-matched hard side-cases for securely stowing travel gear and goods, which makes the California EV Touring always ready for short- or long-term action. Can't leave home without staying connected? A 12 Volt power socket lets you charge phones or other can't-live-without-'em gadgets while you're on the go.

The 2006 Moto Guzzi EV Touring has an MSRP of $13,490.

The Future is Naked: The 2006 Moto Guzzi Griso

The 1,064cc Moto Guzzi Griso packs all the muscle of the Italian literature hero it was named after. Powerful, yet compact, the Griso has already debuted to rave reviews in Europe, and American customers can expect to welcome this naked bike café racer with attitude in U.S. showrooms later in the 2006 model season.

The Griso was developed and tuned for the challenges of classic Italian terrain—serpentine mountain roads, sweeping lakeside roads and high-speed stretches of highway populated by the likes of Lamborghini and Ferrari. The Griso is master of its terrain, delivering an exhilarating and precise ride at every turn, no matter how technical, and on every straight, no matter how fast.

Featuring Moto Guzzi's new generation 90° V-Twin, electronic fuel injection and the patented 'CA.R.C.' reactive drive shaft, the Moto Guzzi Griso incorporates the very latest technology from Mandello de Lario.

From its beautifully shaped tank to exhaust collectors that criss-cross in an aggressive display of chrome, the Griso is a visual delight. The chassis components further enhance the Griso's striking beauty and thrilling ride. A robust 43 mm upside-down fork is adjustable in spring preload, hydraulic compression and rebound damping. Rising rate linkages coupled to a fully adjustable monoshock damp the rear wheel. The elegant Brembo brakes don't just look powerful, they pack aggressive stopping punch with two 320 mm floating stainless steel disks and callipers with four opposed pistons on the front wheel. The rear brake features a floating calliper with parallel pistons.

The growth of the new power cruiser class has just been trumped by the oldest continuously running European brand. The Griso represents the raw essence of motorcycling stretched into an aggressive stylish machine that never loses sights of the company's roots. Power, elegance, and performance handling have met in a unique vision. The MSRP for the 2006 Moto Guzzi Griso will be $12,990 and available colors will be Black or Red.

Moto Guzzi's confidence in its product line is further exemplified by the two-year unlimited mileage warranty that comes standard with every 2006 motorcycle.
