Manugasss Pushes to P12 in Assen Moto2 Qualifying

2023-08-21 08:56
Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp‘s Manuel Gonzalez made a big step in the P3 session this morning. His sixth place allowed him to take part in this afternoon‘s Moto2 Q2 session. He was pushing, but he didn‘t get in the hot lap he had in mind. He secured P12 on the TT Assen starting grid.

Gonzalez‘s first hot lap of the Q2 session saw him settle into fifth place. But the Spaniard wasn‘t fully satisfied with the feeling on the bike and quickly headed back to the pits. He started his second run with five minutes remaining. The number-18 rider had been pushed down to 13th place meanwhile and had time for three further attempts to better his position. Though his 1‘36.827s, set on 6/7, wasn‘t as fast as his P3 time in the morning, it did earn him 12th place on tomorrow‘s grid.

We improved a lot compared to yesterday. The setting is good, we can see it in Manu‘s confidence and his lap time. Unfortunately, we‘ve been unlucky because at the end of the session, when Manu was pushing a lot with the time attack tyres, he found two yellow flags along the way. It‘s a pity because he was fast and really confident. Anyway, the race is tomorrow. We will focus on getting a good start to recover positions.

We will again start the race a bit further towards the back of the grid. It‘s not the position we wanted, because our speed is higher. I had bad luck today: in my fast lap, I took a yellow flag. For tomorrow, the objective is the same as it was in Sachsenring. We will try to have a mega start and try to follow the front group.
