Öncü Out After Early Race Two Collision2023-05-11 11:39Can had started the race from fifth place on the grid and was just about to turn in to enter Turn One when he was hit from the side and the rear and sent tumbling into the gravel with one other rider. Can was sent to the medical centre for checks, and the entire incident will be reviewed by the officials after the race has been completed. After being examined in the on-site medical centre Can was taken to hospital to undergo treatment for a fracture of the distal ulna and the proximal radius of the left arm. The top Kawasaki finisher in the final Assen WorldSSP race proved to be Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) who came through the field from last place on the grid to finish a remarkable eighth. After three rounds of the championship have been completed Öncü is now fifth overall, with 63 points. The next round of the championship will take place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya between May 5-7. Can Öncü, stated: “I started strong and was heading into the first corner but as soon as I began to lean into the turn, I was hit by another rider and crashed. It was a serious, high-speed crash and I immediately realised that I’d hurt myself. Now all I can do is follow the indications of the doctors in the hope I can be back on track as soon as possible.” In his first WorldSSP weekend of the year Tom Booth-Amos (Motozoo MIE AIR Racing Kawasaki) was the top WorldSSP Challenge rider in Race Two by finishing 10th in the combined race results. Phillip Island podium finisher John McPhee (Vince64 by Puccetti Racing Kawasaki) was 17th in the second race.
