WorldSSP - The PETRONAS MIE MS Racing Honda Team fights hard at Assen

2023-05-11 11:39
Competing at the Assen TT Circuit in the World Supersport category, PETRONAS MIE MS Racing Honda riders Tarran Mackenzie and Adam Norrodin have completed the second and final race of the weekend, demonstrating their fighting spirit to cross the line twentieth and twenty-second position respectively.

The weekend’s final 18-lap race got underway as scheduled at 12.30pm. From nineteenth, Mackenzie was lying twenty-second one lap in, with team-mate Norrodin in twenty-sixth position, the Malaysian still not feeling 100% physically speaking. Unfortunately, neither was able to make the kind of progress they had hoped for today, despite their best efforts to remain with the group ahead. The Brit nevertheless worked hard to hold twenty-first place, consistently upping his pace and setting his best time just two laps from the end. Tarran made up one position through the last turns to finish twentieth, followed by his Malaysian team-mate, twenty-second across the line today.

Three rounds in to the 2023 championship and Mackenzie positions fifteenth in the general standings with 15 points, while Norrodin lies eighteenth with a total of nine points. The PETRONAS MIE MS Racing Honda team now looks ahead to round four of the WorldSSP championship, which will be staged at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit in Spain over the weekend of 6-8 May.

Tarran Mackenzie P20

“I made a bad start and then had to play catch-up. We left the setting the same as yesterday, but I felt I was improving in myself, lap by lap. I was fairly consistent and set my fastest lap with only a few laps to go, so I’m happy in that sense. I feel that we’ve improved the bike a lot over the course of the weekend and that I ran better races than I did at the first rounds. It’s been a difficult weekend at times, but we’ve come through it and hopefully we can make further improvement with the bike at Catalunya. I can’t complain and now our attention turns to the next races, which are only a couple of weeks away.”

Adam Norrodin P22

“This was definitely one of the most challenging race weekends for me. Physically I’m far from feeling 100%, maybe 70% at most. This morning there was still a doubt as to whether I’d race at all as I was taken to see the medics due to my fever and high temperature. I had no intention of giving up though and was still very eager to race so as to repay my team and thank them for their amazing effort in getting everything ready in such a short space of time for this weekend. Anyway, I’m very grateful that I managed to complete both races. This weekend is for Midori and everyone on the team.”
