Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Boost Performance on Aragon GP Saturday

The Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team boosted their performance on the Gran Premio de Aragón qualifying day. Manuel Gonzalez promoted to the Q2 session without any trouble and secured a 14th-place starting position. Keminth Kubo gradually improved his feeling in FP3 and feels comfortable to push hard from 29th on the grid tomorrow.

This morning, Gonzalez achieved his goal of earning a spot in the Moto2 Q2 session. It put him in a great mood ahead of the 15-minute shoot-out. The Spaniard was all fired up to get the best possible starting position for his home race. A 1‘52.967s, set on lap 6/7, earned him 14th place.

Kubo had good pace so far this weekend and was looking forward to putting in some strong qualifying results. But in his enthusiasm, he exceeded track limits in the first four of his eight laps in Q1, causing them to be cancelled. His fifth lap of 1‘53.959s, which was faster than all his previous laps anyway, saw him finish the session in 15th place. The result puts him in 29th place on the grid.

I'm happy about Manu's Saturday. He and his team worked really well together, choosing a good strategy from the FP3. This is his second-best qualy of the year, and we have high expectations for the race.

Kubo's result is not good, but the positive side of the weekend is that his gap to first is less than at the previous GPs. He is in full work mode in the garage with his crew chief, working for tomorrow.

I'm pretty satisfied about today. We made a good step from yesterday, and we could achieve our objective, entering Q2. In the morning, I felt good with the bike, and we knew where to improve for the afternoon. But in the qualifying, I didn‘t feel as good as before and my lap times weren‘t as fast as I wanted. Tomorrow it will be difficult to stay with the first riders, but I will try not to make mistakes and to finish inside the top 10.

The rear tyre I used for the qualy was not as we expected, and I was not able to turn the bike well. Here in Aragon, we have to carry a lot of speed, and if the bike is not turning, it's difficult to make a good lap. Anyway, the race is tomorrow, and I'll do my best.
