Comment from Maverick Vinales after FP3 at the Teruel GP

2020-10-26 13:17
This morning, Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP‘s Maverick Viñales continued to work on the settings of his YZR-M1 at the MotorLand Aragón before putting in a hot lap. His fastest time in FP3 secured him fourth place in the combined FP timesheets and a spot in Q2.

Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Maverick Viñales once again dedicated most of the available track time to fully focus on improving his bike‘s set-up. With just 0.4s covering the top 10, he used the final minutes of the FP3 session to defend his place in Q2. He was successful, securing fourth in both this morning‘s and the combined free practice rankings.

Viñales followed a strategy similar to last week‘s FP3. He waited in the box for a bit at the start of the morning session to judge just how competitive the pace would be. Once he stepped aboard his Yamaha, the Spaniard left no stone unturned again in his Gran Premio de Teruel preparation. However, he did make sure to throw in a time attack as the pace picked up in the final minutes. His best time, a 1‘47.473s, set on lap 14/14, saw him in 4th place in the FP3 and the combined free practice results, 0.140s from the top.

Viñales will be back on track from 14:10 - 14:40 local track time (GMT+2) for FP4, followed by Q2 from 15:15 - 15:30.

We rode quite well this morning, honestly. I‘m not 100% satisfied yet with the bike, but we also have time to improve in FP4. We have a clear direction that we‘re working towards for that session, which is very important. I did just 14 laps this morning but, anyway, I‘m quite happy overall. I finished fourth in FP3 and in the combined, which is good. I think we have good potential for FP4 and Q2. We‘re going to try to be better and more consistent in the next practice session, for sure, and to do more laps.
