Comment from Maverick Vinales after FP1 at the Teruel GP

2020-10-26 13:07
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Maverick Viñales returned to the MotorLand Aragón track this morning to prepare for Sunday‘s Gran Premio de Teruel. He ended the FP1 session in sixth position.

The Yamaha-man eagerly stepped back aboard his YZR-M1 this morning and was quick to get back into the swing of things. A little more than ten minutes into the session, the Spaniard set the provisional fastest lap. That was his cue to switch his attention to the main tasks he set himself for FP1. He used the remaining 30 minutes to focus on tweaking his bike‘s race set-up to the track‘s lay-out. Without putting in a time attack, his best time, a 1‘49.176s set on lap 5/17, kept him in sixth place, 0.992s from first.

I think FP1 went well, because we tried many things on the bike that we weren‘t able to try last weekend. Amongst these changes we found some positive things for our bike. This is very important, because during the last race I needed a better rhythm from lap 10 to lap 20. I think the new solutions can help us shave off a few tenths on this track, and this is really good. But, anyway, we will still have to work a lot. For sure, our competitors will also become stronger with each session, so we need to keep making improvements. But overall the feeling is really good. Now I want to try the current set-up in the afternoon with the correct tyres and put in many laps in a row.
