Double heartbreak for PETRONAS Sprinta Racing in Moto22020-09-30 12:21The Gran Premi de Catalunya came to a disheartening conclusion for PETRONAS Sprinta Racing’s Moto2 riders Xavi Vierge and Jake Dixon. Both riders were unable to reach their full potential around Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, as neither were able to complete the race. Vierge didn’t have the best of starts to his home GP and lost some places in the opening corners. The Spaniard battled back, getting into his rhythm and making his way back up the field to ninth. Unfortunately for Xavi, while fighting to make more progress, he crashed at Turn 9 on lap seven – bringing his Catalan GP to an early end. Team-mate Dixon’s race also came to an early conclusion. The Brit made a good start and was making steady progress through the field in the opening laps. Jake successfully manoeuvred himself into sixth but then disaster struck on lap five. The throttle cable on his bike snapped coming out of Turn 7 and Jake was forced to retire from the race. The PETRONAS Sprinta Racing duo will now be able to enjoy a brief rest, before action resumes at Le Mans, for the Grand Prix de France (9-11 October). Johan Stigefelt Team Director Moto2 started really well, especially with Jake; he had a great start, good opening laps and was staying in the top-six like we wanted. He was putting in some fast lap times, same as the leaders, and he couldn’t do more. Today we had a technical problem with the bike, an issue that we didn’t expect. It rarely happens and it’s so unfortunate for Jake. He has been doing well and making a lot of progress, it’s a big shame for him today. Xavi didn’t have the best start and had to fight a bit more in the beginning, to find his rhythm and pass some riders. He managed it and was going strong, but he unfortunately crashed. It is very unfortunate for Xavi and the team because it could have been a really good result today. Source: SIC Racing Team Click here to visit our forums to discuss this story |
